Default Blacking Out, Second and Third Thoughts....

Well,

I have been thinking and posting about blacking out my baby...

Did so first with Carbon Flash Metallic Flags, front and back from RPI Designs...Great product!!!

Got rid of the fish altogether...

Got rid of the "Corvette" script...

Covered the side reflectors with Vinyl kit black out...(peeling already)

Did the rear reflectors and brake light with Acrylic blackout...(solid)

Tail Lights have been the real issue!!!!!

Read all the posts about VHT/Rustoleum...how to's including one real detailed one for making them look less matte.....Sounds good, but washing and detailing the princess is within my comfort zone...spraying and sanding is not....

Finally decided to get the job professionally done...tail lights and reflectors....

Sprayed from the rear after bumper removal...

I'm going to have this car for the rest of my life,
so why cheap out on the job?

While the bumper is off, Radar/Lidar detection installed...

So Blend Mount, nice as it is, is irrelevant....Passport max
will go on my DD...

Life's short...blow your cash on what you love!

Sounds like you have it planned out. Hope you don't get any hassles from the LEOs for blacking out the taillights.

You are going to have to post some pictures! You mentioned radar/Lidar detection while the bumper is off. You going with a K40? I ask because I'm not aware of any other rear sensor based radar detection solutions. Lidar/Laser is a different story but not radar.

When it comes to getting hassled by the cops, is something like this a no no?

It's not the cops that are the real problem, it's the lawyers. Somebody rear ends you and it can be your fault with tail tints....and then the lawsuits start for his neck, etc....it the only thing I won't mod.....(and I want to)

Very interesting info, Glen. Thanks for posting. Maybe the tail lights are the one thing I should just leave alone.....even though, like you, I really want to mod as well.

Sorry, but blacking out exterior lights or reflectors (and thus decreasing their visibility) is just plain stupid IMO. What are those who do it trying to accomplish anyway?

I don't think it's about trying to "accomplish" anything, but rather a visual preference. The only thing I don't like about the look of my C7 is the tail lights and I think they would look much better blacked out or smoked. Simple as that.

If its not CGM, I want it to be black. Just preference.
