Default Drinking problem???

Two months into owning my new C7 I find the oil consumption might be excessive? I have used 1.5 quarts of oil in 3800 miles of normal driving. What are others experiencing with their cars?? Is this just the nature of the beast? This is my first Corvette. I have cars in my family that are way past 200K and use NO oil between changes!

For what it's worth, got back from museum on Sunday. Checked at 100 miles the same day as delivery and was right at full mark.

Checked at around 1500mi when I got home and it's at about 80-90% of full according to hash marks. The manual states that oil usage may be higher during first 1500 miles.

Do we need to establish that oil level is being checked properly? Not adding unnecessarily? It's been done, so I ask.

Same here!

Breaking in the car with varying RPMs and speeds will help set the seals so that after that, you will not have (excessive) oil consumption. That said, I think that some aren't going to be as tight as others, no matter how careful you are during this period.

Default A couple of things

Almost all manufacturers will tell you with the higher temps and close tolerances today, using a quart of oil per one thousand miles is normal, espcially during "break in". Using anything less is great.
When checking the oil on a NON Z51 the engine should be off for at least 3-5 minutes and on level gound. Also, on my non Z51 I've noticed an interesting phenomenom - on one side of the dipstick the oil level will be slightly different than the other side! This may be due to how the the dipstick is utlimately routed to the oil pan. Perhaps rather than going straight down, it may be going down at an angle.
Finally, using a quart and a half in 3,800 miles is pretty good.
Hope that helps....

For grins went out and checked my oil. I've been home for several hours max. It was at BOTTOM hash mark.

Then started her up and got her back up to temp.

Checked at 2mins, at full hash mark.

5 mins, down a bit.

7 mins, down a little more (maybe 90-95% of full hash mark). This is about midway time wise per manual instructions. This is the same amount of time I used at my 1500 mile comment above but this time it read a little higher. Granted not on same "flat" ground so that could be part of it.

Didn't check again at 10 but obviously these things are going to be tricky to know if there is a proper amount of oil. I can totally see someone let a car sit for "too long" and freak out. Heck mine "showed" empty after an hour or two.

Sorry, if it's not obvious my comments are for a dry sump. Not sure what the OP has.

exactly why I always ask in these threads.....

every oil level thread stating some issue is with dry sump cars. I have yet to see any issue with a wet sump car.

there were overfilling issues in the beginning with the dry sump cars, everyone knows that like geico. combine this with the fact people don't know how to check their dry sump oil level and boom, you have tons of threads about the same thing.

it's a first year epidemic. not first model year.....first owner year!
