Have had my car for a little over two months and 1500 miles. Driving around this morning and was in Touring mode so I went to select Sport mode and it went straight to Track mode. Tried to go to Sport mode from there and it was extremely sluggish and would go straight to Weather mode. Tried several times to get to Touring, Eco, or sport after his and was ever more sluggish in responding and would only go between Track and Weather modes then just kind of froze in Weather mode. Left it alone and tried it again about 10 minutes later and started working just fine after that... not sure what was going on.
Mine's done that about 3 or 4 times since January. Some will say your not used to the action of the switch, but I've got about 3000 miles and have owned my car 4 months, so that's not it. It's a glitch, but doesn't happen often.
Once, I just stopped on the side of the rode, cut the car off, and restarted. The reboot worked fine. It's not a big enough problem for me to take it to the dealer for repair.

Yup a couple times here...too......every new car I've had in the past few years has something like this...it just gets temporily confused....my theory is car electricity is not surge proof like the wall outlet and the car computers just go crazy every now and then in a minor way.
I've turned my switch and had the mode go the opposite way on several occasions. I'd be in Touring and turn to go to Sport, and it will go left to Eco instead.
I find the mode selector very finicky and have had a similar problem. From toring, it skips past sport to track. I have to mess with it to finally get to sport. So now,I pretty much leave it in sport. It does not default to touring like some people have said it does after shutting the car off and back on.
I have had it to skip modes when moving the selector from time to time but this time it literally went all the way track to weather and back to track every time I tried it for miles. It was extremely sluggish and finally just settled down and started working properly. W really annoying!

Same here. The dial is overly touchy in my opinion and seems to react to the return to center motion as a turn to the left.
Some of the descriptions above sound like it might be a problem with the switch contacts. It might be the kind of thing that improves with use. But isn't it interesting how so many of the electronic situations self-correct at restart/reboot.

I have had it happen a few times. It's acting like an optical switch, I was wondering if it is. No manual to look it up in...aaarggh
If optical, there's a light sensor and when you turn that **** it senses "blinks" and sends a certain number of pulses to the computer. That's what it feels like to me, and the "blink counter" may miss a beat once in a while and send the wrong number of pulses to the computer.
Lots of ***** are now configured this way for volume, station, etc...
Just a guess - the **** just doesn't feel like a switch with contact to me.

My car doesn't default either. Stays in the last mode selected. Vin 22,487
