I had a problem with a cracked headlight on my last C6. I want to avoid that on my C7.
has anyone had any experience with any of the headlight films? curious as to:
1. ease of application (DIY or professional installation required?)
2. do they really add protection against damage to headlights or are they just a gimmick?
if your answer to #2 is that they do offer protection, please tell me the brand you chose and who you bought it from.

I ordered the smoked Xpel headlight film from Mid America and installed one of them myself. However, I did not like how dark it was, so I pulled it off. I'm going to order the clear version from them and install them instead. Xpel will definitely protect the headlights. It's also a fairly easy installation with detailed directions on the package.
I put the new Xpel xtreme on my headlights. It is major protection. Installation is a bit challenging. There is a good "how to" video on the Xpel website. If you have any hesitation about doing it yourself, I'd have a pro do it. I bought the kit from www.xpel.com
My '08 had 3M for 5 years and it worked great, definitely took a few hits in that time. The C7 has had Suntek (two different installers said Suntek is same product as Xpel) for six months and so far, so good.

Suntek and Xpel are definitely not the same product. They are similar products, but each manufactures their own products. Xpel Ultimate has a 10 year warranty and Suntek has a 5 year warranty. Suntek announced in March they are being bought by Eastman Chemical.
Something that I have started doing with all of our modern Plastic head light cars is buy a new headlight housing (now wail they are available) and store them away. If I sell the car I will pass them on or install them to improve the sale. Over time they will yellow because of sun damage and you can only polish them so much.

I have had them on my 2006 Ford GT and 2007 Porsche GT3 since new and they protect. I plan on adding them to my C7
