This is definately a 'nit', but my 3LT C7's 12V Accessory Socket in the console (where years ago a cigarette lighter would have been) is there, waiting to accepts an accessory plug-in charger, but it has no cap.... other than the console door that covers the entire socket area. Other vehicle I have bought in recent years have a cap that covers this socket and I'm wondering if GM 'cheaped out' or if Bowling Green simply forgot to install the cap on my 12V socket? Any other C7owners, is your 12V Accessory Socket capped or ,naked?
An empty plug hole in the console is not what I would call correct. Something could stick in the hole and short across the leads. Not a good thing. I would also prefer a cover. I think I'll go to Pep Boys and see if there is something that I can place in the hole to close it off. I really don't want or need a lighter in the darn hole but a cover would be nice. I also want a plug for the empty lighter hole that is on the forward portion of the console. I don't like electrical holes OPEN and susceptible to getting something accidentally shoved in there.
My Yukon XL had those caps over the sockets. After a few years they broke off. I'm of the mindset that there is no need for them under the console lid and they they would get in the way if they were.
Another point, I haven't used a cigarette lighter plug but maybe 1 or 2 times in the last 45 years! I quit smoking when I was 25, I don't allow anyone to smoke in my car so all of my cigarette lighters for 45 years have been virgins!
So - - sounds like GM did not supply the caps for the accessory sockets. That's what I wanted to know.
I will not beat up my dealer for failing to properly PDI the vehicle - - - I'll stop by my local BMW store and get a few of the caps BMW supplies to cover the accessory sockes in their vehicles. Tried one from the wife's 550 M-Sport and it fits the C7 just fine.
BTW, you don't want to plug your charger into that socket. It's switched. The one in the hatch area is always hot and the preferred location (per the owners manual)
Old age and not keen on observation was the culprit. There is the cover inside of the console. I'll just find something to dummy up the front cigarette lighter hole and I'll be happy again.

Tnx,
Elmer
but you don't have to ...really... as the front socket retracts into it's own cover sheath undeneath...it's not open at all when oyu push it down...
