Default Adding MRC

Is it possible to add MRC after you purchase a C7 Z51? Can the dealer get the parts and bolt them on, upgrade the software, and away you go?

major cost. I think that the shocks alone run almost $1,000 each. with the market for used C7's so hot, its probably cheaper to sell your vette and order a 2015 with MRC. By the way, I have it and love it.

Shocks are not $1000 each. I think I saw them low as $400 each? But there's a lot more involved. You have wiring as well as sensors that need to be installed at each wheel. While technically anything is possible, it's not worth it. Buy a Z51 with it if you really want the option.

It would make no sense logically. It would cost way more than the $1800 that the FE4 option costs. And that's if it could even be done.

As others have said, forgeddiboutit. Now's a perfect time to replace a non mag ride Z51 with a mag ride Z51, while the market is still hot. I wouldn't waste any time though, as the 2015's are just around the corner and the 2014's will be last year's model and obviously less desirable than a new 2015.

I doubt that. I believe the C6 magnetic shocks are around $700 or $800 each, so why would the C7 ones be half that price?

Someone posted prices a few weeks ago. They had done some calling around. The price was around $400-450 for one shock. I worked at a dealer before and comparing c6 to c7 shock prices doesn't guarantee the newer model will have the more expensive part. Also some parts departments will have higher prices than others.

I know you guys get a lot lower prices in the US for parts, I just got a quote for the rear magnetic ride shocks for my C6 and in Canada the total for just the two rear shocks is $2400! I am 95% sure my rear shocks are toast right now, and if that's the case, I'm going to have the car converted back to a conventional suspension. I love having MSRC on my C6, but I won't pay this outrageous price to keep it. Hopefully the C7 version of MSRC is more reliable (my car only has 66k on it, that's way too soon for shocks to go, my C5 had 133k on the original shocks with no problems)

Maybe they're made in China now. MagneRide is owned by Beijing West Industries.

I have to agree. I think it would cost more than just buying the car with the options. Not only do you have to buy the parts, but wire them into the controls of the different driving modes as well. I would also imagine some configuration would be needed as the car won't know what to do with the settings for adjustments.

The Mag Ride shocks themselves have an MSRP of $580 each and can be purchased for much less from forum sponsors. I've seen prices of around $480 when I did some research just to debunk somebody's baseless comment about what they thought they cost.

That said, it's much more complex than just adding the shocks. You have harnesses and probably even a control module/computer as well as software updates that will likely need to be done for the MSRC suspension to work in conjunction with the driver modes. While it may not be impossible, I highly doubt it's feasible at this stage given that nobody really knows what needs to be done even if you could fabricate the harnesses and install the shocks. Either way, it will be a very costly proposition with no guarantees.

If you want MSRC, I'd strongly suggest ordering it with your car as it's a relative bargain when you order. If you don't have MSRC and want it now, I'd suggest living with what you have and be happy you have a great car!

I would add that NPP is the same as MSRC. If you want it, or think you'll want it, get it. Because retrofitting it will be very costly and invasive if it's even possible.

The reason I'm asking is I was going to order a stock 2015 1LT Z51 with MRC but last week my local dealer gave me a great price on a 2014 loaded (CF dash, NPP, Carbon Flash Mirrors/Spoiler, Black Wheels, Battery Charger) 3LT Z51. I went for it because it's Lime Rock Green and they dropped the color which was my color choice. This one does not have MRC but, I'm quite happy with it so far, and was wondering if it could be added. I do not feel like I need to have it but it would have made this car better then what I would have ordered later this year. All said I am very, very happy with what I have and was just looking to round things out. I'm willing to spend a couple of grand for it but I do not need it that bad.

That's the most important part. Enjoy your Lime Rock Stingray as it looks great on the car.

Call Bob Wendorff at Fitchner Chevrolet. You will get great prices from him and I'm sure he can ship it cross the border to you. I'd bet the C6 MSRC can be had for under $400 each. I think I've seen them for as low as $380 for other vendors including eBay. Make sure you tell Bob you're a forum member. I'm sure you can get them installed for under a few hundred dollars. I swapped all 4 shocks on my C6 at my local tire place for a couple hundred dollars. Actually I think it was $160 total for all 4.
