I visited my dealer several times and talked to them about ordering a new corvette. Each time they told me that as soon as they sold the one they had they could order me one with 1000.00 deposit. The dealership called me yesterday and said they could order me a 2015 but since I wanted a manual the deposit had now changed to 2500.00. Should I stay with this dealer or should I move on since they changed the deposit amount and they knew I wanted a manual all along?
I don't think the deposit is out of line as long as the dealer will have allocation and can really get the car. Just make sure it is refundable if they can't make good with in a reasonable amount of time. I paid a $2k deposit when I ordered.

If it is totally refundable I see nothing wrong. You may loose a dollar in interest over that period.
I just got an email from days chevrolet in Acworth georgia and they have allocation this week and they will order the car I want and they said they would only require a 1000.00 deposit and would take an additional 1000.00 off sticker. I am taking them up on their offer Wednesday!
Thanks all for the advice! This is my first corvette!

In theory, for some reason the dealer thinks they will have a more difficult time selling a manual if you happen to back out of the deal after the car is built. Thus the higher deposit.
To test them, have a friend call as a fake buyer and ask if there is a different deposit due on a C7 auto vs. a C7 manual.
Great idea! It just upset me that all of a sudden they were ready to order and the deposit amount went up. I may not have to deal with them after all after Wednesday.

I would not have issue with the amount for a deposit. What I would have issue with is using the reason for an increase due to manual transmission. That excuse would make my trust factor drop a few points.

That is exactly what happened and what made me start looking at other dealers. Who knows what would come up next?

The change in the deposit amount does not bother me near as much as the statement "as soon as they sold the one they had they could order me one". Sounds like they have few, if any allocations and are only earning them on a turn and earn basis.
