Default Rail Shipment

Its bad enough to wait months and months for a delivery, but then to add insult to injury, many Vettes are shipping rail and the wait is perhaps another month. I am praying that my Vette will be delivered by June 21, which will be one month since it shipped, so that I will have it for the road trip I have planned ever since I ordered the dang thing.

I feel your pain, I waited 6 1/2 months for mine. I probably will never order another. I'll purchase from dealer stock.

Best of luck... Mine was almost 7 weeks from "shipped" to arrival. Probably cost GM any of my future business so they could save a few hundred $$. Now that's business savvy!!

Uy, I didn't need to read that. My car has been built 13 going on 14 days ago and is still on hold at BG. I at least figured it'd be a day or two to ship as most around me have been experiencing but if I still have a month I think I'll shoot myself! I too have a road trip planned for the break in. Good luck to you brother! To us all.

Mine was 5 weeks from leaving BG to arrival at the dealer's lot outside of Coeur d'Alene, ID.

I feel for those suffering the same fate (waiting during that time was the hardest part of the overall wait!)

Rail does not add months and months and please recall I was a very earlier oppose to Corvette using rail and that was in August long before it became apparent that most autorack rail cars could not handle the Corvette.

My point, using rail adversely effects the time from shipping to delivery but in most cases by a few days and not by a few weeks. But Chevy Customer Care should be made aware that this method of transportation is not acceptable to any Corvette retail order buyer whose dealer is located more than 600 miles from the Bowling Green Assembly Plant.

I'm curious: For those that saw many weeks between the car being shipped and it arriving at the dealer - was the arrival date near the predicted date given to the dealer by GM upon invoicing? My car was shipped last week sometime (not exactly sure when) and GM is telling the dealer an estimated delivery date of 6/25. I am in Seattle, WA, so about as far away from BG as possible.

Once a car is shipped by rail, it could circle the country for weeks before delivered.
I learned that when I ordered a Camaro that shipped from Canada. Luckily, I found a system that I could track the railcar, so it made it a little easier to wait.
Glad I live in Texas. My C7 was delivered by truck less than 2 days after it left BG.

In my case, it was way longer than GM stated. This was to Spokane

With all of these long waits I read about, I would pick mine up in BG.

My dealer forwarded the estimated delivery date, the car arrived the day before. Invoicing was accomplished as or the next day after the car came off the assembly line. I would think the estimated delivery date given at invoicing would be reasonably accurate. My dealer knew every detail from ordering to delivery. (And was willing to forward same to me)

Ken Horse stated it best during my rail wait (6 weeks) it's the "Let your Chevrolet see the USA rail tour". 6 weeks from BG to MT.

Are some of you telling me that the dealer is informed of approx delivery date upon invoicing ? When is that, at the time it physically leaves Bowling Green? My salesman has been telling me all along that it would be about 3 weeks. If that's based upon what BG told them I should see it any day now. I am just wondering how BG can predict, being that the rail companies can be all over the place, moving rail cars off to the side for days at a time. My assumption has always been that my salesman was basing it on what they have been experiencing on prior shipments.

Any thing can happen with rail shipments,
Build Date 5/5
Shipped to Ohio 5/22
Bayed 4B00 BG 6/3
Per. Dealer & GM , in Ohio 6/3
Per. Dealer, car arrived 12:30 pm 6/4
Picked up 6/9

Believe me the wait will be well worth it.

I would have considered museum pick up but I was told still charge destination charge plus 990 for museum delivery plus and another 800 to watch it being built with no guareenty or refunds if it does not happen when they said. That is $2700 plus 2 plane tickets two times plus hotel and food. That is sure a good game they have.

These really are long shipping times. You would think it was coming by boat from Europe.

The museum charge is $990. You don't have go see it get built and pay $800. So it would only cost you $990 + 1 plain ticket. it's going to cost you probably an extra $1500 to $1600. Maybe you'd want to bring someone with you and get 2 plane tickets and make a vacation out of it. You will get an incredible experience with the Museum delivery, get to break in the car with the road trip back, and get the car month or months earlier. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

4/1: car at dealer (shipped by rail to NH)
I consider myself one of the lucky ones....

What a crazy expense. If you want to watch it built $800 plus no guarantee and no refund I'm told shipping 995 pls pick up 990 plus two trips for air hotel rental car etc. I scrapped the idea when it added up to over $4000 that's a ten day dive trip to some place very warm.
