Personally, I would take the frat letters off as it kind of invites trouble being on a C7. The public is used to seeing them on typical college type older cars and it brings unwanted attention to your car.
Y'all sound like a bunch of girls. Taking the letters off the car won't stop anything. Maybe it wasn't the car, maybe they just didn't like the fraternity or the school, or maybe you.
Until this forum I've never seen a car picked out based on the the car itself to vandalize.
You're moving to California, very progressive state, you shouldn't have any problem's blending in.
It's actually very simple. When I was growing up, you respected those who worked and made something for themselves. You looked at the nice House or the fancy Car and said to yourself, someday I'll earn enough to have those. You knew you weren't owed a Living.
Nowadays, we have a Society that promotes Entitlement and Jealousy.
People look at what you have and think, that SOB doesn't deserve that. It comes form the highest reaches of Government, Entertainment and the Media. Life isn't fair, so somebody better make it "even". It's one of the reasons that I no longer own Income Property. People have no respect for another person's Property.
Welcome to the "new school" America Son. It was nice while it lasted.
Hit the nail right on the head with that one !!!!!
Maybe some of the Forum Trolls can answer the OPs questions!!!! How many trolls or haters saw the title .... Problems with Stingray....... and wet their whistle to jump on the thread thinking it was another taillight, first year problems, seats too tight etc etc type thread????
When I saw the title I thought here we go again the haters are on a roll!!!!
But we have folks right here on the forum that frankly and I hate to say this relish in the bad encounter the OP had!!!
Are they jealous, insecure, anger issues??? I don't know.
But seems to me if you are on this type of forum and express the disdain some of the trolls do.......... what would you expect from the general public????
Nothing should surprise any of us anymore........ too bad.
I have my fraternity letters on the back of my car and they spit on those as well.
As others have stated, take these off. Having just graduated college you should be well aware of the label most people associate with fraternity members so unfortunately you will antagonize a lot of people with this.
If you haven't already found a place to live for when you move to your new job, make sure you try to find a spot that has a garage. There are jealous haters everywhere so leaving your car 'out in the open' will be sure to grab their attention.
And remember, car insurance exists for a reason so if anything does happen, as long as you are properly insured, you should be covered
I have thoroughly loved my car so much since the day I got it, I literally wake up everyday excited to drive it in the morning, however I have experienced some weird problems that I have not experienced with any other car.
My first experience was online when I posted or talked about my car on reddit or other forums I would get a bunch of hate from people saying "you dont deserve that car", "spoiled", etc.. I'm 22 just graduated college, but I have literally payed for every dime of this car with my own money I invested in the stock market, I also landed a full time job with awesome pay that starts in August. Driving and cars have been my passion ever since I was a kid and I felt this was the opportunity I could get this car and enjoy it while I was young.
Yesterday I parked my car at an apartment complex and someone took a ton of bark and threw it on the windshield, I have my fraternity letters on the back of my car and they spit on those as well. I dont understand why there is so much hate for driving this car, I will be moving to northern California in August and I am having serious doubts on keeping the car or trading it in for something less so extravagant. I will be living alone so i'm more concerned about my safety than anything. Am I being too concerned? and what have your experiences been? Would love some advice on this.
Thanks,
Ron V
Ron, since you're moving to CA, where I live BTW, just put an Obama Sticker on your Car and nobody will touch it.
If you want your Car destroyed so you can collect the Insurance money, put a Ted Cruz Sticker on it.
Enjoy your Stingray, you earned it.
Best of luck to you. Don't let the Bastards get you down.
Ron, I don't care how old or young you are. You worked for it and you earned the right to enjoy it. The world is full of jerks you have to ignore. I think most here share and understand your enthusiasm and have had similar experiences. Don't give up you car and let the disruptors beat you. They won't always be there.
Ron,CONGRATS!! 22yo and a new Stingray, the way to go!!
Life is for enjoying. Don't let SOBs get you down. We don't have any American flags, or Conservative stickers on our C5 or C7 because we know they would get "keyed". Vette owners learn to drive round and round to find a "safe" parking spot. It isn't so much vandalism but idiots that open their doors into yours. And yes, when you move, be sure to get a place with a garage. This nice a car should not be left out in the weather! Join a Corvette club as soon as you move. We belong to 2 and the friendliness of other Corvette owners and the help you get is invaluable (as is the forum)
Thanks for all the advice and support! I wrote this post right after it happened so I was still in an unhappy state. I took my fraternity letters off and decided to take my "alumni" license plate off as well, I think that is what invited the car to be vandalized more than the car itself. My first priority when looking for a place in northern California is a garage. I dont know why I even considered letting the car go, I love it too much to ever sell it. But again, thanks for all the support it really helped me deal with this.

Good smart rational thinking! Keep on track, you're off to a great start.

Hopefully it was just an isolated incident - so I wouldn't rush into selling it. Enjoy the car - it is something you worked very hard for. Hopefully when you move there will not be any problems out there.

Yup thanks! I think when I will be around a more professional crowd in the bay area I wont have problems like this. I'm definitely not selling the car I love it too much haha
