I'd love to pull apart the memory wire system and see if I could make it work. Apparently, it was something GM didn't test before sending the vehicle on its way to the showrooms.
One thing for sure, I'd never make a habit of pushing down on a painted part of the rear hatch to complete closure--a couple years of that and you can see damage done to the paint in that area.

Hi, mine works but the vent is just not big enough. Saw a picture of it coiled as a spring someone posted, it's bigger than I expected. If you want to see if your vent opens, remove the license plate. There is a large rectangular opening behind it. Use a flashlight, stoop down and shine a flashlight in the opening. Hit the hatch switch above the license plate and watch the vent open. Believe it is doing what it is designed to do, it’s just not big enough for some cars! It is pretty big, however. Perhaps as some folks mention it is how much force is needed to squeeze the molding, some cars more than others.
I read somewhere that they saved 1 lb. Whoopee. Think of all the hours they spent developing this.
A pound here and a pound there all add up. Porsche and other exotic manufacturers burn the midnight oil to save ounces. Kudos to the Chevrolet Corvette Engineering Team!

Spoken like someone who has never tried to shut the hatch on a Stingray Coupe.
I was wondering if the C7 has the auto rear hatch pull down option? My '04 and '09 both had it but my '14 doesn't seem to have it installed or possibly its not working. So, before I take it to dealer I was just checking to see if it is an option.
Are you sure your 09 had a motorized pull down hatch? My 2008 didn't have it. I thought GM did away with it after MY 2007.

Save ounces? C7 is a porker its heavier than a C6.

I don't believe mine works at all... With just 1 window slightly cracked (less than 1 cm) the hatch closes perfectly. With both windows up, the hatch won't even shut being slammed. I have to push down on it to get it to latch.

Easy to check if the vent is opening, as I describe. I felt the same way because it closes so easy with the door open. Very little force required. Post if you find it opens. Perhaps there is a problem with the open area inside the car, before the vent. No one has reported that and I have only seen pics of the rear, which is wide open to the atmosphere.

Just found a picture of the Memory Wire spring and the interior vent. Sure looks like more area than a 1 cm (0.4 inch) window opening!! Don't have one of the outside but you can easily see it when you look through the rectangular opening behind the license plate. Pics with the bumper removed do show a lot of open area. Looks like it's wide open.
So because some cars seem to work better than others, is it the alignment of the hatch, the gaskets, how well the doors seal, the environment the car is in, how many times the hatch is used, or something else that makes some of them work and not others? I'm assuming the hatch vent thing is the same on all of the cars so there has to be something different from car to car.
It would seem to me that something like a reed valve on a two-stroke motor would work as an air pressure relief just as well or better for a lot less technology.

I agree Dave! It is an allusive aggravating problem. For me, the door always has to be open. Somehow, someway, a lot of air has to escape. I wonder if anyone has correlated the HVAV settings? Maybe the idea is off the chart but something is different from car to car.

GM didn't test it's??? You've got to be joking because that's an outlandish statement.
