Default Playlist Again??

has anybody had any success making a playlist to a USB.
I've tried all found on this forum and a few others but no joy

latest attempt was via iTunes
Exported to USB and car finds the USB but nothing else.

Steps I take
Completely formatted USB to FAT32
Cranked up iTunes, songs and albums are found, Chose Playlists and at bottom left chose New Playlist, drag and drop a couple of albums to the playlist pane, pick Done. Playlist shows up in left pane. Right click and choose Export and save as Playlist.m3u. open USB and file is there. I than edit the file to remove windows file locations

Example
Example:
m3u file opened in notepad:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:232,Our Love - Al Jarreau
H:\Music\Al Jarreau\Breakin' Away\05 Our Love.mp3

Edit:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:232,Our Love - Al Jarreau
Al Jarreau\Breakin' Away\05 Our Love.mp3

Save file and head to car

Zip,Zero ,Nada

WHAT the */*#@ am I doing wrong

if someone has successfully done this maybe a STICKY would be good

Default AH HA!! I may have solved it

Of all places a Ford Focus site.

Anyway steps I took seem to be correct EXCEPT for one thing. When the file exported to the USB it placed the Playlist.m3u file on the bottom.

ford site said to make sure that file is at the top. Took me a few tries but finally got it to the top and I'll be darn if it didn't work. Going to try again and see I it really works or I just got lucky

Try doing a forum search for a posting from Kenhorse concerning this. I seem to remembering him posting detailed instructions on how to get this to work a few months ago.

Do a search for SD cards here in this forum and you'll find one with advice given by wormwood. That is the one I used and everything worked fine. As far as the m3u file that you need to bring over on the last step of his procedure. Once you close out your thumb drive and reopen it it usually goes right to the top at least that's what it's been doing for me since I've been redoing all my playlist over lately. The only thing I've noticed is that unless your songs are formatted and MP3 your album art will not appear on the display because the car will not except M4P formatting yet. So basically any songs I downloaded from iTunes had to be re-created.

Default Worked!

Ok it is time consuming but it looks like it works.
I got most of my information from CRAIGCURRY
First I reformatted my USB flash drive as it did have old files
Did a download of iTunes. Cranked up iTunes and let it finds all my albums, onec that was done I chose PLAYLIST an at bottom left corner hit the "+" sign and chose New Playlist. New screen shows up and I dis the drag and drop of 3 albums I wanted to try that had quite a few songs. One that was done I clicked the done button. Screen change a PLAYLIST is in the left pane. Right click Playlist and Export to USB drive and save as Playlist.m3u

Go to USB location and see Playlist.m3u. Here is where it gets tedious.
I did as CraigCurry explained: edit the m3u file in notepad and removed part of the path so that the mp3 files now have no path. They are accessed in the root directory where there are stored.

Example:
m3u file opened in notepad:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:232,Our Love - Al Jarreau
H:\Music\Al Jarreau\Breakin' Away\05 Our Love.mp3

Edit:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:232,Our Love - Al Jarreau
Al Jarreau\Breakin' Away\05 Our Love.mp3

You need to do this for all the songs in the file
Once done resave the file. Then drag and drop the same albums to the USB drive making sure Playlist.m3u it the first file

Even worked in the wife's Malibu

This seems soooo complicated compared to my Ipod classic. I only want to listen to my playlists, not individual songs. I used a flashdrive to back up my laptop for Itunes, but it only lists songs, not my playlists and I wanted to just use a flashdrive and leave it in the car;I don't want to leave my ipod in the car all the time. I've added a lot of songs on Itunes since I put it on the flashdrive, but I can't figure out how to delete whats on the flash now and put the updated Itunes on the flash. This is way to confusing and it was alot easier to pop in a tape or cd , although it is easy to use the Ipod, once you figure out how to get the music on it. I'm going from a C5 cassette player to the C7.
