Visited a local Chevy dealer today for service on my Silverado. Sitting right next to the service desk was a just delivered CG 2014 Z71 7spd--smelling real fresh. (I think it was their only allocation.) I had a great wait time, sitting in both seats. However, sticker was full MSRP PLUS $10,000 dealer markup. And they'll likely sell it for that to some dude ready to pay.

I honestly don't think that a $10,000 markup is even enough. If it's a Z71, that makes it a one-of-a-kind!

I visited my local dealer two weeks ago and they had a white base model C7 convertible on the floor with an automatic. They had a $30,000 dealer markup on it. Out the door - over $100k! The sad thing is - somebody will probably go in there and buy it. Impulse buy.
I'm not sure if a dealer keeps all the markup without giving the salesperson a percentage. A friend who sold Harley Davidsons during their heydays being in short supply said the house kept all the markup and they only got paid off the MSRP of the bike.
Bottom line the salespersons were not happy over the markup either.
If you pay .01 cent over MSRP you are getting screwed by the dealer. I bought my Z51, 3LT, FE4, NPP car from dealer inventory in Richmond Va. for MSRP back in Feb. I am sure everyone on this forum will agree because several dealers are selling Base cars for under MSRP. Just my .02 Cents
I can't believe dealers are still putting markups on these cars at this point. The west coast must have a way different market for C7's. Those insane markups won't fly over here.
When dealers markup a car like that chances are they are in no hurry to sell it. Having a shiny new C7 in the showroom is a good customer draw. And they have the off-chance that Mr. Deeppockets will come in a buy it giving them all the extra profit with no extra effort.

Exactly what I was thinking, especially if it was their only allocation.
So when you guys trade in a car hoping to get say $10K and the dealer says hey we'll give you 11........... you say wait a minute.......... I only want 10 don't screw me over and give me and extra grand!!!!
I mean it is free enterprise. If YOU were the dealer and could move a product at a premium......... make an extra 5 10K you want me to believe you would not?????
Several of the Los Angeles dealers are marking them up still and they seem to be mostly 6-10k over MSRP. This is often on Non-Z51's and verts which of course have been pretty easy to get deals on for awhile from the big forum dealers.
The dealership I was talking to explained that they were buying from other dealers at MSRP and that's why they had to mark them up. You can tell they are starting to get desperate because I've been contacted a couple times about buying one. I was told I might even be able to get a base vert at just $1000 over. I naturally didn't jump on this great deal and ordered out of state.

Well that's the main reason I went to Hendrick Chevrolet near KC and drove it home !!! I know of at least 3 dealers doing markups and I've talked to others in that even if they don't mark up their allotments are only 1-5 cars for the whole year !!! Wayne ( Kent Wa )
A couple things. First The dealerships are hoping off the un- informed. Some rich dude or anyone that seriously wants and can afford one walks in off the street and doesn't know that he can order one for his taste at MSRP when he can just spend the extra 10k to "Have it now" and be the cool man on the block. Example was when I was in Findlay chevy in the waiting area waiting for my tire repair and watched some dude walk in look at it call the salesman over and said I want this. There was another person walking around it just checking it out with his son when another salesman walked up and said you need to move away this car was just sold. The car was a 3LT Z-51 but it was selling for like 85k.
Second is traffic enhancer. This car is so popular that people come in off the streets just to see the car, this is making the odds better to sell some other car in the lineup to someone who was "just looking". Walk in to see a corvette and walking out with a brand new Malibu. Why your there lets check out some other cars that are more affordable.

in WA state, its all about MSRP+. Trust me i was trying to get a '14 coupe and a $10,000 - $20,000 markup was pretty standard.
