HOw many of you are renewing Onstar and Sirius after the trial periods? Does anybody know what the cost is for each? Also, if you do NOT renew Onstar, do you still have some functionality of Onstar, like the remote features on the iPhone?
I plan on maintaining the satellite radio, already paying for it in both my parents' cars and will be adding it to whatever vehicle I end up getting for a daily driver. I'll just be doing the 'basic' package as I don't need anything beyond that. The OnStar I'm not sure about. I was considering the phone minutes but since that apparently has a time limit on it before it's got to be renewed I don't see the point. Not sure about the app functionality, anyone care to chime in on that?
I will continue both in my car. I find them both very useful and, in my opinion, worth the money. For me the cost is negligible compared to the utility and functionality provided to the navigation system, car security, the onstar mobile app and the sound system as well as traffic and weather reporting features, etc.
Flaagan: I believe the OnStar Mobile Link app is free for 5 years provided you activate the app during your free OnStar trial period. Even if you don't purchase OnStar after the conclusion of the free trial period you can still use the Remote Link Key Fob service for the full 5 years.
I'll be renewing my Sirius but most likely not OnStar.
I would consider renewing Sirius but I notice a lot of fading here in CT. The combination of trees interfering with the signal in the summer and not using the car much in the winter is an issue.
I don't know where the Sirius antenna is (which is good visually) but it must be contributing to the poor reception (which is bad)

+1 for me, I have it on my wife's SRX as well.

I will renew neither. Both are expensive monthly subscription services I don't need. Pandora does everything for me that satellite radio would and costs me nothing (including the frustration of dealing with satellite radio customer service).
I will keep Sirius, but wife and I are not in agreement to the navi with safe and secure. It is 300$ a year that could go to other uses, and for a non-daily driver, the value is decreased even more. I want to keep it. My feeling is that for the price of a pizza with a liter of soft drinks per month you get a lot of features in a car that is kinda a luxury anyway. We have 30 more days to decide.
Hmmm...I noticed that most of the C6 owners don't renew unless they get the $33 rate/year (I think it's $33 or $30...I've rec'd several offers myself). What's wrong with Pandora?
Onstar is a waste IMO. Everything it can do your C7 if equipped with NAV. can do.
As for Sat. radio I will renew as i like being able to travel and not worry about terrestial radio signals fading and one lane is rock and the other is country
I have had Sirius Radio for a number of years and find that if you call within days of expiration you can get a better deal on a yearly subscription.
My last renewal notice from Sirius was going to be $208.
I Googled "Sirius coupon deals" and got a code for $77 per year. I called their CS and said I wanted to use the code. Naturally they could not do it, so I said I was going to cancel since it was too expensive for the couple of stations I actually listened.
Long story short, they transferred me to a supervisor and I got a year for $88 +taxes and the usual "rips". Final cost was $110 or so (roughly half).
Honestly that's about all it's worth IMO.
When you get the reduced price, Make you specify you only want this as a one time charge to your CC. They will try and get you to commit to an automatic renewal at the prevailing rate w/ your CC on file. Which would be $208 or more.
I got neither on my C6, but I've grown to like the sat radio, so I kept it for the C7. The best price they would give me was $99/yr, which was $123 with all the fees. I sent a check for the one-time subscription, since I've heard about their CC practices.
My Onstar runs out 7-9-14, and the offer they're making now is $15/mo for safe and sound, which is more than I think it's worth. I did install the phone app, and that's pretty cool. My understanding is that it will keep working for 5 years, and I'll know in about 5 days if that's true.
Serious what's the catch with free five years do they track you?

Yes, I'm sure they do, at least in general. Not too long ago, they announced that they will use your vehicle driving information for their own purposes, even if you don't have an active contract. You can opt out by asking them to sever the connection, but I'm sure that also cuts off your phone app info. I suspect they allow the 5 year phone app just to keep you from telling them to turn off the connection.
