Discounts
I had read that GM deleted the 2014 C7 from military discounts. Now I see that on their website it appears to be back in play:
https://www.gmmilitarydiscount.com/i...le-eligibility
From what I can gather by running numbers on the 2014 C7, the military discount is the same as the Supplier discount.
Am I correct in assuming the Mil discount is in effect with participating dealers?
I have dealer within 100 miles of me that will give me supplier (as a ret military member) but has a $699 doc fee added to all car sales. If I can't whittle most of that doc off on the car price, I'd been thinking of trying something else.
Thinking if I can buy somewhere else (out of state or where ever) without a doc fee and get the Mil and USAA discounts, I'd opt for the museum pick up (as it would in effect only cost me about $189 more than my local dealer would be charging me for picking the car up from him (with the outrageous Doc fee).
What do you guys think? Beats driving out of state to pick it up or pay freight to have it drop shipped to a local dealer.

That's theft, no a doc fee!
Some dealers are pretty greedy and build up a huge Document fee into the contact after the deal has been struck hoping the customer doesn't see it or is unwilling to go back and start the deal all over again.
By law they have to charge everyone the same amount (doc fee) since that would be discrimination to line it off for one person and not another. They are the first to tell you it's the law and it cannot be waived.
You can however deal that Doc fee (dollar amount) off the price of the car which does make it all legal because the Doc fee in the contract adds it back in at the end.
I learned a long time ago to question every thing before you start to negotiate. When I asked about the dealer Doc fee, this is the response I received:
The “Fees'” at XXXXXX Chevrolet are $699 on EVERY deal, new or used, and on everything from a Chevy Spark to a Cadillac XTS and Corvette. That is pretty much the norm everywhere today. Some places are actually higher ($799/$899). Others might be a little lower but those are the places that are charging a HUGE “bump” on the Stingray.
In essence they take my USAA discount and put it in their pocket just because they can.

Knowing this going in gives me the opportunity to whittle the a bigger discount on the car before the contract is printed for signature.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

Les Stanford will honor the programs and has a $200 doc fee. All in all I came out $6200 better off ordering from them than anywhere else regardless of doc fees.
I think dealers honor the $750 if you have insurance through USAA. I'll call and check for sure. GM just had a Military Appreciation month in June and gave the Mil Discounts and USAA $750 on the C7
GM Announces Military Discount!
Between now and June 30th, GM will honor military discount on all its brands, for current and separated military, as part of Military Appreciation Month. Also USAA $750 can be added to the discount. Only excluded Chevy vehicles are the Z-28 and the Spark EV, as per the following, "All 2015 and 2014 Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and, for the months of May and June, Cadillac cars, SUVs, crossovers and light-duty trucks are eligible for the GM Military Discount Program except:Chevrolet Z/28 and Spark EV."
Now there is this:

GM (and other car manufacturers) offers are limited time purchase price discounts. Offers available from manufacturers through participating dealers. GM discounts not available on Cadillac vehicles, Chevrolet Volt, and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. GM (and other car manufacturers) only offer discounts to persons eligible for membership in USAA Property and Casualty Insurance Group. P&C membership is generally available to current and former members of the U.S. Military and their former dependents. There is no obligation to purchase or continue USAA products or services to obtain the offers. GM requires presentation of a USAA insurance card or a Confirmation Letter provided by USAA. For a Confirmation Letter, members can call USAA at 1-800-531-8285.
Problem is, rules change constantly. Where at one time something isn't authorized and then it is. Mil Discounts just became available again where last month they were not.
Best I contact USAA and talk to them directly and see how things work out. If I have to insure the car through them to save $750, that's fine. The last quote I got from them was $750 for a year full coverage w/ $500 deductibles on a 2015 C7 with 5,000 mi driving.

I second that on Les Stanford. I am using the GM Employee pricing and saving over $9,800 off MSRP. It's been a no-frills and no smoke and mirrors experience with them. Dennis Tap is the go-to-guy.

Without any regulation dealers can charge anything the desire as long as they stick it to all their customers equally.
Dealers went to court over the imposed $75 GM limit for doc fees on the GM car discounts and won. They do not have to abide by what GM says.
Personally I do not understand how a dealer in a state without any limit can charge more than the $75 amount imposed by GM on employee discounts (since the escape clause for this IMO is) :
Documentation fees
For the Employee Discount Program,
dealers will be permitted to assess a
maximum of $75 in documentary fees,
unless a higher maximum documentary
fee is specified by law. For the Supplier
Discount Program, dealers may charge
up to the amount allowable by state law.
Each dealer is responsible for complying
with applicable laws and regulations.
Where there is no cap or rule (no higher dollar amount is specified by law) so the dealer IMO has to live with the $75 Doc fee
For supplier discounts, if there is no cap imposed by the state, then the dealer can exceed the $75 cap by whatever their regular doc fee is - $500, $1000, $2000 or whatever
Makes shopping for a dealer with lower or no Doc fee worthwhile in a state like Florida. An out of state purchase is becoming a real possibility for me now.
