So I searched the forums but didn't find a problem similar to mine.
Setup: SanDisk Ultra 32GB SDHC Class 10/UHS-1 Flash Memory Card Speed Up To 30MB/s (NOT USB stick)
I copied a large chunk of my music the other day to the card (~18GB) and went on my happy way, everything worked great.
Last night I decided some stuff was old and I was missing stuff so I removed the card, deleted and added stuff and later re-inserted the card (car was off for these operations).
This morning, it seems to still remember the old deleted songs and tries to play them! I have removed and reinserted the card multiple times both with the car on and off with no help.
As soon as it gets to those now missing files it goes into a loop and I can't get out (no browse method or steering wheel controls help). Clicking on anything does nothing. I have to remove the SD card to get it to play again but as soon as it randomly selects one of those files it gets stuck again in a loop.
One other poster said something about GM needing to add the ability to force a re-index which is what it seems I need. I have about 22GB now (instead of nearly full) with no changes to the symptoms.
Any ideas? How do I clear the infotainment systems idea of what is on the SD card, if that is indeed the problem. Some other posters said they had issues with SanDisk but it did actually work for me, until I removed/added files.

I just added some stuff to my 32gb Sandisk SD card, worked like a charm. However, I accessed the card directly, rather than going through the "media library" which the entertainment system seems to try to compile. I just page directly to the SD card, then "browse" to find the files I am looking for. (I use an Ipod for music, and the SD card for audiobooks and podcasts). I wonder if you access the files directly, it will force the media library to update? No idea if that would work, but might be worth a try.

Forgive me but how do you access it directly? I hit the media button, then hit browse, and selected all songs to try to select a song. But when it is stuck in the infinite loop, the selection highlights but nothing happens.

When you hit the media button repeatedly, it cycles through all the media connected in the car (through USB, SD, and bluetooth). So when I hit the button, I'll go through my Ipod, my SD card, my phone, and then the "My Media" library, which is what I think you are looking at, and which I never use. I think that "library" is what needs to be updated, but try cycling through until it says "SD Card" and then select one of your new files/items to see if that forces an update of the library. Probably not, but it should allow you to access your new stuff directly from the SD card.
Some one in a older post said that in order to completely remove an old file on a SD card or USB you have to "format" it. This completely removes all embedded files. Then just recopy all songs from your computer.

It is at SD Card - I never hit the button to see other entries and I have nothing else hooked up so probably why it defaulted to SD card.
I have an 32 Gb SD card with 4100 songs and an iPod hooked up, the iPod is easier in all respects.....an sd card won't do on the go playlists either....
Try changing the volume name of the SD card. This might trick the system into thinking it's an entirely different card and force it to re-index ..
I tried this, unfortunately, it did not resolve the issue. I am so baffled how the system can actually play snippets of music (about 2 seconds) that is no longer on the SD Card! Someone else recommended trying to completely format and re-copy the music. I will try that next and post my results.

I don't believe your music is actually played - in real time - from your SD card/USB stick or whatever. It is loaded into a working buffer at within the car's electronics at bootup and actually streamed from that buffer. That might explain the phenomenon
In case you haven't noticed yet, you can actually rewind/pause the radio up to 30 minutes which means there is a buffer involved with that. I believe that also applies to other sources

Update: I reformatted the card (not the quick format option) and reloaded my music. It appears to be behaving now.
Much like the contact list on your phone connected via Bluetooth, the SD card's contents have been stored in a snapshot index on the system. The system will reindex but it doesn't always happen right away for some reason.
It stores the content information on the system and marks the drive so that you can gain access to the information (along with sorting of the contents and searching via artist, album, etc.) more quickly.
When you place new information on the card, it may not see it right away as a result of the old index information stored on the system.
If all else fails and it hasn't updated the index in a timeframe you are satisfied with, format the SD card and re-copy the information. It will generate a new index on the system and you should get your new information.
For sanity sake, I keep a folder on my PC with the songs I have on the SD card. Consider it a backup of your music information. I insert the SD card to the built in card reader on my PC and open the SD card location just like any other drive associated with my computer. I then open the folder on my pc, select all contents and drag to copy them to the SD card. Any new music I want to put on the card, I copy to the PC folder and then copy it to the SD card. If you are using iTunes (which I recommend) you can drag and drop directly from iTunes to the folder or you can go out to the iTunes music folder location and copy from there.
I've never had a problem directly accessing the files and treating the SD card like drive and I've never had to reformat the card to cause it to re-index.
