If I’m not mistaken, there have been some comments that the switch to 4 cyl mode is obtrusive.
I have an A6 and other than when in hilly terrain and not warmed up, the shift with my car is seamless. I run the car in Track mode most of the time but even so, it switches to 4 cyl frequently. It does, however, at other than interstate speeds even climb hills in 4 cyl mode.
Just got an instantaneous fuel economy reading of 99 mpg this morning, ha ha sure. Don
I get my A6 coupe today and will drive it about 1000 miles (about 2 months as a DD) to asses my real world experiences with AFM and should I find it intrudes into my Corvette experience I plan on by-passing it with one of two options. I'm leaning towards a DiabloSport InTune device. But RangeV8 is an option.

Why do you have to buy a mod to override it. I thought AFM only works in Eco mode. Couldn't you just not use Eco mode??
Have fun this morning.... If the weather is good tomorrow evening, there will be a large group of LGCC'ers at Bobby's Custard in Maryville. We'd love to see the new ride!

Not for the automatics, in the M7 you can by-pass AFM in Sport and Track modes, not so in the Ax. The best we can do is operate the Ax in manual mode, but if there is no activity after 10 seconds it reverts back to auto mode and AFM will kick in as needed.
That's the downside to GM's design of the automatics.
I have the Z51 A6 with NPP and never really noticed when the vehicle transitioned between 4 and 8 cylinders. The audible difference was a lot more perceptible so I disabled AFM with my Diablo tuner. Gas mileage did not change significantly but I didn't purchase the Vette for gas mileage anyway.

AFM does not kick in after 10 seconds on A6 if you have shifter in "M". You will stay in V8 - watch DIC while driving.
If shifter is in "D" and you use paddle shifters it will revert back to auto after 10 seconds.
Enjoy the new ride! :0)

Congrats on your new ride. Bet you can't wait for dealer to open!
I've tested it a few times since I got my car on the 16the and really can't feel it. It's definitely not intrusive in the M7. It is cool that they have it isolated to eco mode only in the manual. All the other modes stay in 8 cyl mode. I won't be actually using it until my break in period is over though. I think it's best to keep all the cylinders firing during this period.

If the car is in M mode, it will never go into AFM
I am always surprised that I can not tell which mode the car is in when I am driving. One of the screens gives you a green light in AFM. As mentioned before the exhaust sound changes but that is no big deal. When you hit the throttle it gives you power instantly. I can see no reason at all to fool with it in an Automatic car. If no one told you it was there you would never know. If you think about it as a bad thing it is all in your head not in the car. In my opinion of course.
