I'm hoping I can do the same and I already have a spare set of red tail lights.
The only thing I don't know is if these tail lamps can be heated to separate the red lens from the plastic housing. This is a common practice when folks look to open tail lamp assemblies to have them tinted on the inside. But in most cases, those lamp assemblies don't have electronics and LEDs inside of them.
Does anyone know if these lamps can be opened with heat?

Moisture gets between the cover and the light because there's a gap there from the tape and the covers are not an exact fit but it's never been a problem on mine.

$259
This thread is a few years old but they can be found here a bit cheaper and look the same as the $400 ones. I do not have them so I cannot attest to the quality. http://www.southerncarparts.com/2014-2017-c7-corvette-molded-acrylic-taillight-blackout-lens-package.html?gclid=CLvgve3r-NMCFZJLDQodXMwPYg

I ordered these from Eckert's today, about $90 shipped. I liked the look of them. Both the appearance and price are less severe than some of the other vendor offerings. I'll report back on them soon.

Drifting
Look cool? Yes. Safe? Maybe not.
Sorry to be negative but I followed friends in their C7 with blacked-out tail lights in a heavy rain. I had to get dangerously close to them to see them. I stayed behind them because I was afraid someone else might hit them.
And yes, I drive my car in the rain. It's a daily driver and hasn't melted yet.

Insofar as safety is concerned, it's all relative. When I purchased my first Corvette two years ago (a 2007 C6) I sold a Honda motorcycle. I rode that bike thousands of miles annually in addition to my road cycling hobby/sport which still puts me on the road @ risk to DBC (Death By Cager) on a daily basis. So in comparative terms, I could dress up my Stingray in matte black, rename it Jihad Jake and have NO brake lights and be safer than I am on two wheels. Moreover, the third eye brake light won't be touched.
Those covers from Eckler do appear to be better at letting your brake lights shine through then the others I have seen. Of course covering your brake lights for style could conceivably make it less likely your survivors collect a huge jury award or litigation settlement after you are incinerated as the result of a fatal rear end collision, but you'll be beyond all that.
By the way, if some road cyclist or motorcyclist annoys you when you are driving your car or truck, just flatten them with your vehicle. Few questions will be asked, no summonses will be issued. Use the standard explanation to authorities 'oops'.
