I've watched several in-car videos from spring mountain and read several threads but no one has ever detailed how they mounted said recording video device to the car. Specifically, I'd like to mount by iPhone 5 to the windshield or some other part of the car. I've looked at several windshield phone holders but they don't look too sturdy. I'm worried about very shaky video as well with a flimsy mount. I'm heading out in October and would like to record some videos.
The vast majority of video you see from Spring Mountain is filmed by Spring Mountain with their existing in Car setup in their school cars. They will offer you the video at the end of your session.
I'm not sure what Spring Mountain allows for video equipment if you are using your car on their track (which does happen a few times a year.)
I know that for most HPDE's that I've participated in, they will allow GoPro camera suction cup mounts because those have been tested and proven. Many of the iPhone type suction cup mounts really aren't that good and the last thing you want happening is to have your phone come flying off the windshield while you are on track.

Thanks for the reply. Does the video include audio? I'm guessing the video is an up-charge?
I was there a few years ago and no one used phones, we all used Go Pros. The mounts for them are awesome. In my case I never lost it even at 150 mph mounted on the outside of the car.

Was just there at beginning of July and the information on Spring Mountain making/offering video's for you is not currently correct. Yes, you can use your own GoPro or buy one from them. They will assist you in finding a place to mount it, but for all intents and purposes, you are on your own.
Edit: There is a photographer (not a Spring Mountain employee) who takes still pictures of the cars from various points on the track and he offers a USB mem stick with photographs of you driving around the course. Stills only.

Thanks for that.
Long time since I've thought about it / talked about it and my comment above was based on a misunderstanding from a set of sessions where a car was outfit with a video setup but that was because a student who ran a video production company was setup in the car doing some specific filming during his class. I think it was promotional video for S.M. itself.

$100 for a 3.0 8GB USB stick with 70 photos in my case. You also get the class photos. They do not do videos. I used my GoPro mounted to the rear window with an extension arm. You can mount it to the roof if your car has a transparent roof. Also try the windshield. We did see someone with it mounted to the outside of his car (the side and then the top).
Coming off of turn 3.
