Default Performance exhaust/driving mode question

I am putting in an order on a 2015 coupe with Z51.

Those with the performance exhaust- if you set the car on the quieter exhaust setting (not sure which it is) and turn it off- will it start up in the quieter setting?

Exhaust sound became a huge issue for my 02 Z06 (traded in now)- it would wake up the kids in the morning

Thanks

At start up it seems to be in the noisier setting and then the moment you pull away it quiets right down unless you set it to Track or Sport mode. Although I haven't heard the start up of the normal exhaust to be able to compare the difference, perhaps they both growl at start up. Maybe somebody that has heard both exhausts could comment. I haven't noticed a bit of difference at start up regardless of the mode I leave it in.

The valves are opened on startup regardless of mode, but they close quickly if Sport or Track mode are not selected. It sounds like you need to check it out, if possible, before making a commitment.

My NPP in tour on start up is quiet, not after 10 secs, as soon as it lights up. It's loud right away in sport to track.

I found this video which gives you a sense of the sound in different modes of the C7. At start up though it's always the same as has been pointed out, so waking the kids up might be an issue.

Really? I didn't know that. When mine is in Econ and I turn the car on it seems very quiet to me. Certainly is much more aggressive when I have the system turned on,.

Don't worry about it. Trust me, the NPP is worth it.

I'd agree I really like the exhaust system it sounds great. You could end up waking the kids but they will get over it when they see dad's new car.

When I commented about the start up sound that was in Touring mode, vs Sport or Track. I haven't ever started the car up in Eco mode so maybe that closes the dampeners which might quiet it. There are 4 dampeners on the system , my understanding 2 related to cylinder deactivation and 2 related to the performance feature of the exhaust giving you that extra bit of HP and most of the growl.

At initial startup my 10 day old Stingray BARKS regardless of mode, however in W, E and T it quiets down within a few seconds. I know because my neighbor who's master bed room is almost directly across from my garage mentioned it the few mornings I had to leave home at 5:00 am.

In S or Tr it stays NASTY.

This is my first automatic and was worried about how the exhaust would sound/behave with an automatic transmission, I can tell you I love how GM tuned it. I'm glad I spent the $1195. It put me over my budget but well worth it.

FYI, it starts up valves open always as people said but quickly reverts to the mode it's in. If left in sport, it starts in sport. Touring starts in touring. At least with the a6, not sure about the m7, if you shut it down in track it will actually revert to touring on startup.

perhaps in a perfect world....nine times out of 10 it's a crap shoot. I'll turn it off in Track and the next morning it's in Touring or I'll turn it off in Sport and it will start up in Sport 3 hours later.

At least in mine it does.

no, in most worlds it works......mine has never changed modes when starting...it has been posted that track mode will revert to touring but not other modes....

Mine is still on order. Does Sport and Track sound the same? I thought I saw one time that Track was even louder than Sport. ??

I remember standing behind my car and hearing the dealer (Tommy Jr) start it for the first time. I was not aware of the valve arrangement and wasn't expecting that loud growl. Of course it did quiet down quickly.

Go to the HOME page and find the SETTINGS icon. Inside SETTINGS you'll see DRIVING MODE. Inside DRIVING MODE you'll see where you can configure the exhaust the way you want it (Auto or Off). Once you've set this, it stays that way until you change it again, even on startup or shut down.
