The numbers or lines or no marks probably signify which cavity of the mold the key was made in.

Uhhhhhh, so you're saying that my M7 should NOT have had the reflash done? Because my M7 does IN FACT have both selections available.

Or are you are saying "as it comes from the factory"?

Ken,

Have you tried to reprogram the #1 position with the #3 key fob in the car and the #2 fob not near the car.

I wonder what I am going to have to do if I ever want to use my #3 fob.

I did try but didn't expect it to work (which it didn't) as #3 would be a unique identifier for the car anyway. From what I see, there is no way to use a FOB that is ID'd as something other than 1 or 2 - the car will accept up to 8 FOB IDs....

Precisely... Both of ours also have 2. Each recalls its own position, so I'll stand on my previous remarks. YMMV

I heard back from the dealer I ordered my C7 through (Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg, Idaho - a forum dealer by the way) and they will cover any cost incurred through my local dealer here in Oregon, having the FOB reassigned as I need. They're working out the details directly.

A huge kudos to DSM!

Well, I accept that my old eyes are semi-bad, but I CANNOT find ANY numbering on my C7 fob or key components (VIN 20468). Printed numbers were very readable on previous C6s fob bottom itself; 1 and 2.

A pic would sure be welcomed for C7.

Interesting issues with the memory button. When I took possession of my C7 the seat memory worked fine. Then I started having problems. It occasionally would not work and I would have to reset the seat. Then suddenly it started working again and I have had no problems for over 1 month. But,I have set it to recall the seat position when the car is started, and that does not work. It does move the seat back when I open the door with the ignition off. However, the 1 button always works now and I don't mind having to press the button to move into the driving position. The C7 is fantastic!

Here's another one. You can just make out the number 1. My other FOB is numbered 2.

I had the 7 speed flash done and it does work, but not to my liking. If you set the parking brake before you shut down. The next time you get in, push the start button without the clutch or brake. Then you can one touch the memory seat and it will go into position without holding it.
The problem is that I forget to set the parking brake on shut down. Never have been one to use it.

Actually, as soon as I press the START button, the Memory is run without having to do anything else. But I do have the EB set...

For what it’s worth both of mine have that "number 1" or a line! Others have reported the same. Not logical to number the removable key anyway! Could switch and how would the FOB know!

As said ^^^, it is a mold cavity number. Not physically connected to the FOB anyway.

Had my M7 done two weeks ago. Same results here.

As I posted later in this thread, it turns out my 2 FOBS are ID'd as #2 and #3 and that's what was causing the apparently lack of functionality with the reflash.

We're under control now

Not sure if there actually was a fix. If there was it is hard to believe that a car built in late July wouldn't have it.
What transmission do you have? Our cars were built the same week (VIN 32826) and on my A6 the memory functions work as they did on my C6. I open the door and the seat and steering wheel retract, I open door get in and press Mem 1 and the steering wheel, seat and mirrors return to my settings.
