For what it's worth some keys are and some not numbered at all or both with a line. Since the numbers refered to are on the key, guess you could swap keys and change but the FOB would not. My keys just have lines, no marking on the FOB.
The numbers or lines or no marks probably signify which cavity of the mold the key was made in.

Uhhhhhh, so you're saying that my M7 should NOT have had the reflash done? Because my M7 does IN FACT have both selections available.
Or are you are saying "as it comes from the factory"?
In my case, I've confirmed this. I am obviously in possession of FOB 2 & FOB 3 as far as my car is concerned.
After speaking with the dealer, it seems it takes a Tech II in order to reassign a FOB ID# so I need to go back to my purchase dealer (not my local one) to work out that they'll cover the cost of having this done (gee, it ain't free!)
Ken,
Have you tried to reprogram the #1 position with the #3 key fob in the car and the #2 fob not near the car.
I wonder what I am going to have to do if I ever want to use my #3 fob.

I did try but didn't expect it to work (which it didn't) as #3 would be a unique identifier for the car anyway. From what I see, there is no way to use a FOB that is ID'd as something other than 1 or 2 - the car will accept up to 8 FOB IDs....

I heard back from the dealer I ordered my C7 through (Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg, Idaho - a forum dealer by the way) and they will cover any cost incurred through my local dealer here in Oregon, having the FOB reassigned as I need. They're working out the details directly.
Remove the key from the fob housing and turn it upside down. On the underside of the bezel you will see a 1 or a 2 stamped in a recessed cavity.
Well, I accept that my old eyes are semi-bad, but I CANNOT find ANY numbering on my C7 fob or key components (VIN 20468). Printed numbers were very readable on previous C6s fob bottom itself; 1 and 2.
Interesting issues with the memory button. When I took possession of my C7 the seat memory worked fine. Then I started having problems. It occasionally would not work and I would have to reset the seat. Then suddenly it started working again and I have had no problems for over 1 month. But,I have set it to recall the seat position when the car is started, and that does not work. It does move the seat back when I open the door with the ignition off. However, the 1 button always works now and I don't mind having to press the button to move into the driving position. The C7 is fantastic!

A pic would sure be welcomed for C7.
Here ya go (in the elipse). Not the greatest pic, sorry

Here's another one. You can just make out the number 1. My other FOB is numbered 2.
Must be for the A6 only as I had the reflash done to my Z51 M7 (VIN 11822) and it doesn't work that way at all (still)......
I had the 7 speed flash done and it does work, but not to my liking. If you set the parking brake before you shut down. The next time you get in, push the start button without the clutch or brake. Then you can one touch the memory seat and it will go into position without holding it.
The problem is that I forget to set the parking brake on shut down. Never have been one to use it.

Actually, as soon as I press the START button, the Memory is run without having to do anything else. But I do have the EB set...
Here's another one. You can just make out the number 1. My other FOB is numbered 2.
For what it’s worth both of mine have that "number 1" or a line! Others have reported the same. Not logical to number the removable key anyway! Could switch and how would the FOB know!
I had the flash done last week on my M7 and now when I press the start button, as long as the parking brake is engaged, the seat moves into the memory position from the easy exit position. Prior to the flash I had to press the memory button.

As I posted later in this thread, it turns out my 2 FOBS are ID'd as #2 and #3 and that's what was causing the apparently lack of functionality with the reflash.
My car was built 2 weeks ago and it does not have the supposed fix. Still have to press and hold the #1 memory button to get the seat in place.
If I change the settings to AUTO RECALL, the only other choice, the seat returns to the forward position as soon as i open the door and I can't get in the car.
Not sure if there actually was a fix. If there was it is hard to believe that a car built in late July wouldn't have it.
What transmission do you have? Our cars were built the same week (VIN 32826) and on my A6 the memory functions work as they did on my C6. I open the door and the seat and steering wheel retract, I open door get in and press Mem 1 and the steering wheel, seat and mirrors return to my settings.
