The tops I think weigh about the same, 16 pounds, the best way to go on this, "and this is my opinion" just go with no option on the roof panel, and order the transparent top through Gene on this forum site, its about $1600 for the transparent top and he will ship it to your house. If you get the transparent top only and later you want to get the painted top, you are going to pay some serious bucks for it, a lot more than the transparent top.

Default Consideration for those ordering

You're going to love your C7 whatever roof you get, but make your decision based on your own experience. If you've ever had a sunroof car, it had a sliding panel to hide the sun. How often did you drive in the sun with the roof shut but the panel open allowing the heat through? Probably now all that much but if you did, then maybe you'd like the transparent roof. Go to a dealer (pretty much everyone has some level of stock now) and experience one outside in the sun from the inside.

I really wanted the clear carbon fiber roof but when constraint threatened an unknown delay I pushed it through production knowing I still had the C/F dash. I'm very happy with the painted roof and know that down the line there's always the opportunity to buy one if I decide I want one bad enough.

I'm short with a bad back, but the painted roof only weighs 16 lbs and I've found I can easily remove it, stow in the back, and put it back on in short time. No regrets.

I am in central NY.

I now have all three roof options. I ordered my car with transparent and body color, and recently picked up the exposed CF from a Forum vendor. I know, I have issues. Hoping these panels will fit Z06.

It can get plenty hot in the summer sometimes, so I also picked up the removable shade for the transparent roof. Works great and you still have the "feel" that your roof is transparent.

If the budget allows, get the dual roof option. It allows you to swap roofs depending on the outside temps. Otherwise, I would get just the transparent roof - nice to have a clear view of the sky.

I live in South Florida. I had the transparent top on my C6, and have it ordered on my Stingray. I love the look of the dark top over a red car. Sure it gets hot inside the car if you leave it parked in the sun; so does my other car with a silver steel roof. Turn the air conditioning on and in a minute the temp is fine. I think the greenouse effect talk is overdone here. The transparent top is quite dark, similar to having your windows tinted very darkly.
