Default SD card question

My 2015 is coming soon, and it comes with the PDR(video recorder). I understand that you can put an sd card in the glove box slot and record on it so you can watch your video on your computer. Now, what type of sd card do I get? Went to Walmar today, but wasn't quite sure. someone on the forum said an 8 gb has 200 minutes and a 16 gb is 400, but what I saw didn't measure an sd card by these large minutes. So what do I need to buy? Thanks

32GB is the largest you can use. The SD card slot is under the armrest along wtih 2 USB ports.

I have this one, good card and a really good price:
Amazon.com: Sony 32GB SDHC Class 10 UHS-1 R40 Memory Card (SF32UY/TQMN): SONY: Computers & Accessories Amazon.com: Sony 32GB SDHC Class 10 UHS-1 R40 Memory Card (SF32UY/TQMN): SONY: Computers & Accessories

I believe the sd slot on the 2015 is in the glove box.

"Finally, the system features a dedicated SD-card slot in the glove box for recording and transferring video and vehicle data. Recording time depends on the capacity of the memory card, but an 8-gigabyte card can record approximately 200 minutes, while a 32-GB card stores up to about 800 minutes – more than 13 hours of driving time."

Stan, there are different formats specified for SD cards. Our cars read the SDHC format, which only goes up to 32GB. Larger capacity cards use the SDXC format (up to 2048GB). The SDXC format requires use of Microsoft's exFAT file system, which is not as universal (proprietary and patented, limiting its use by all vendors).

USB memory sticks do not have these format differences, so those really are "just a storage media" and you can go as large as you want.

Yes. I know you're getting a '15, but little study of the '14 infotainment manual available in the stickies at the top of the forum page would give you a bit of background. In the 14 version, USB & SD info starts about page 23.

From the research I have done, the 2015 has 2 SD slots, 1 in the console as in the 2014 and the 2nd in the glove box for the PDR.

The one in the glove box for the PDR comes with an 8gb card which will record I believe up to 200 minutes of video and you can put in a card up to 32gb for about 10 hours of record time.

I am 3400 with a TPW of 8/11 and can't wait

I'm an old guy and not up to date on memory cards. The only one I have is the one needed for my Digital SLR camera. Based on your recommendation, today I ordered the card you recommended. However I see that the owners manual mentions "Fat 32" and I don't see the word "Fat" in the description of your card. Is the card I ordered correct for the slot in the glove compartment of the 2015 C7?

Another user posted that moving to a 64gb card did in fact double his recording time available, so IFhe's correct, we know that the PDR supports up to at least 64gb.

Yes...
FAT32 is one of several file system layouts you can use when you format a drive (HDD, USB stick, SD card, etc). Most likely the card will come formatted using FAT32. If it does not, it is very simple to reformat it with your computer.

Unless something changed, mine didn't come with an 8GB card. Had to buy that on my own.
