When the engine goes into four-cylinder mode, is it always the same four cylinders, or do the other four also get some time off during the life of the car?
its always the same 4 (1, 4, 6, and 7), the primary reason being that if you alternated to
the other 4 you would have a second set of harmonic vibrations to deal with.

Always the same ones. At 1,300 miles I have not let my engine operate on four cylinders as yet. With the manual transmission the mode select has to be in economy to have only four cylinder operation.

Initially I was all set to hate this feature and planned on getting a Diablo tune, but after living with for almost a month I can honestly say it's no big deal. If I didn't have my LCD screen set to display AFM mode I'd never know it was operating. So I no longer display that screen.
Does it save any gas, hard to say, but it doesn't hinder the performance or driving experience. For the record my last car was a 2007 Z06 so if AFM was a flawed design I'd feel it and bitch about it.
