Say you buy a car off the lot, and it has the screen and such, but not the Nav. With everything nowadays being plug and play, could a person add the Nav package to the car?
They have it figured out on the 14+ mylink trucks, you need a different human interface module (along with VIN specific programming of the module) and a GPS antenna. Form what I have read the truck and vette use similar modules but who knows..
Either way its not just a simple software upgrade. The interface module on the non-NAV mylink doesnt even have the connector for the GPS antenna so hardware is needed.

You really don't want the factory Nav. Buy a Garmin.
I'm fine with the Garmin behind the radio screen. I bought off the lot and the car didnt have NAV, if I ordered I would have probably bought it -along with 87% or whatever it was of C7 buyers.
The parts to 'add' it to '14 trucks are around 1000.00, not really worth it after the fact if the C7 parts cost the same. Unfortunately GM missed a secondary sales opportunity, Chrysler's new 8.4 system you can add NAV for 500.00 and 15 minutes at any dealer (software only) - GM really should have done the same.

I totally agree. I ordered my car with out the Nav. I use a Garmin, and its great. Ran into a guy today admiring my car and he asked me. I thought is was a valid question.
I just assume it's the need for constant validation.
If you never drive your vet out of town, no reason to spend the money on nav. If you want a car to take trips in, the factory integrated nav is money well spent, even at the outrageously priced 2015 sat nav with PDR.

I would get the OEM Nav if I didn't have to have the $1000 PDR that I won't use. So what size Garmin will fit? Will the 5 inch screen fit in that space?

I have a 5" Nuvi, forget the model number. Fits with room to spare, I just have the suction cup mount stuck on a thick piece of ABS that covers almost the whole cubby floor.
I also bought a cable so it will navigate/charge with USB and not get stuck in data mode (15.00 or so from 3br powersports). Works fine, except you lose the traffic radio unless you use the cigarette lighter plug. Also it will turn on when the car starts but after a while if you dont touch it it will go to sleep mode.
Not the perfect integrated solution but I dont use the NAV often, does what I need it to do.

On the contrary, I use the Nav a lot just finding addresses in the Dallas/Fort Worth area almost every time I drive. I can see your remark if you live, and stay in, a small town. But I haven't memorized the map for the whole DFW area...
