If the Corvette didn't exist, what would your next choice of car be?

Safety Car
For me, any alternative has to be a convertible. Ideally a two-seater. Also has to be somewhat reasonably priced--no Ferraris. I had an Audi tt the first year they came out. Then an Audi S5, which was nice but no Vette! Had an unpleasant experience with my 911, and would be hard for me to go back to P-cars.
So, before I settled on a new C7, my leading contender was a CPO Mercedes SL.

It would probably be a 911, as one of the relatively few lightweight sports cars still available w/ a manual transmission, decent power, great handling, and as a convertible.
In addition, if Corvette were to drop the manual, I'd be gone.

Woof, hard to say. Maybe a Factory Five build?
For those that say Camaro or Caddy, would the LT1/LT4 platform exist but for the Vette?

I had to make the choice, Corvette or Porsche. Ended up with 2017 Porsche 911 C2S. Since this is a subjective choice, I will not bash the C7 nor glorify the C2S.

I had a Jaguar F-Type and love it. I just couldn't love the significant extra weight and the automatic as good as it was. The exhaust soundtrack, however, was extraordinary.
As much as I tried, I have to face the fact that I'm just a manual transmission "neanderthal," and nothing else will do.
My F-Type was also bullet-proof w/ no service visits other than oil changes.

The Jaguar F-Type is a remarkable sports car. Looked at it closely, had a small cockpit for my size, and little trunk space.
I ended up buying a Jaguar XKR Supercharged Portfolio Edition Convertible. It's a remarkable vehicle and has performed flawlessly.
The brand has become very reliable.

Not that GM customer service is reading this, but after I sell my 2016 Stingray due to HORRENDOUS dealer and GM customer service, it will be a GT350. Soon thereafter I will be sending Mary Bara a picture of my new "corvette" Not that that will do anything either. They already have my money so I'm sol. A lifetime of GM cars, 9 years of vettes and now GM can stick it.

A fellow employee of mine has been on a wait list for 2 years. And we work for Ford.

You have obviously missed the point of my post - sure you don't work for GM? Money isn't the issue, crap customer service is.

On top of that Ford likes to make performance cars (sans Raptor) exclusive. You want a GT350, GT350R or a Focus RS, good luck getting one.
Basically what I'm saying is you need to get over it. This is how the car industry works.

JLR understates their empty weights. A number of us weighed our F-Types, and we were shocked at how much heavier they were than the posted specs, generally 150-200 lbs. heavier.
I'm not trashing them, as all F-Types are nice cars.

The SVR is less than 100 lbs. lighter than the R, and it's 300-400 lbs. heavier than the Z06 weighing in at about 3900 lbs. It's also down 75HP and makes considerably less torque.

No, I was talking about empty weight, and when we weighed our cars, we subtracted fuel, estimated oil, and coolant weights. But, you're right that a full tank of fuel (18 gallon tank) weighs 108 lbs.
