While on the Corvette caravan an employee at one of the dealers who were at a function along the way said he was retired from GM and there would be a 2016 ZR1 with 800hp. Won't mention names but there it is for what it's worth.
without names and context of man making assertion is not worth anything and just another urban legend.
I wouldn't be stunned to see a ZR1 in a few years but they never sold very well before and given what GM has poured into the Z06, I'd be surprised to see anything like a ZR1 until later in the C7 life cycle.

Yup, a friend of my cousin who used to work for a dealership heard from an engineer at one of GMs suppliers at a local bar that an un-named maintenance man wispered to the waitress that there would be.....something....about....well, it was true you know.

I would guess it depends on how far the new HP wars go. With 700+ HP Challengers and 650+ HP Mustangs coming to market GM may need to counter them, and finding another 100 to 150 HP from the LT4 is doable. Expensive but doable.
But as many say, the ZR1 will be a very limited production vehicle.
This is the new golden age of HP, how long it will last is anyone's guess.

Well I've got his card and he retired out of Troy. Like I said its there for what it's worth. Your comment is worth nothing, not even funny. Try harder next time.

for what its worth car and driver has an article about a mid engine 2017 zr1 costing 150k and being built along side the current c7. It makes some sense to put out a high cost, high profit margine super car. Then they can compete with the big boys ,sell to the money is no object crowd, and still have more affordable cars for the rest of us. One problem would involve the assembly line with 2 platforms.

Its the two platform thing that makes me think it would have to be built in a different location. But they wouldn't spend a billion dollars for a limited run car (1.2 ave cost of a new car plant) so would have to be hand built im guessing or at least hand assembled.

I used to bowl with his cousin and heard that too.
