just curious, is it worth activating the On Star in my 2015? I forgot how long it's for FREE, but does anyone just ignore it? Never needed it all the years so why do it now? Same with Sirius XM except it's there without my activation and I have no desire to listen to their music. Has anyone used their On Star in the C7?
The dealer activated mine during delivery. I refused to give them a Credit Card. It angers me immensely when all the sudden On Star starts talking in my car. Do yall know how to make that stop?!
If you activate the Free period and use their Remote Link App, you can use the Remote Link App for 5 years even if you cancel OnStar.
when you download and use RemoteLink just once during your OnStar trial or consecutive subscription, you'll unlock access to the RemoteLink Key Fob Services, including Remote Start, Remote Door Lock and Remote Horn and Lights, for five years from date of vehicle delivery.
its actually a potentially useful service with a reasonable price point, but the Terms
are just completely insane and asymmetric for the consumer. to their credit, theyre
pretty up front about it in the agreement, but I doubt many people read it before
they sign up. definitely plenty of devils in the details.
Those are pretty tame privacy and T&C policies. This is nothing compared to what Google, your internet provider or Facebook collect on you and sell to anyone willing to pay for it. Selling your very personal and private information is Facebooks entire business plan and revenue stream.
Just like Sirius, if you give them a credit card they will auto renew at the highest rate leaving you no bargaining power. I don't respond to their initial requests to renew. Last week I renewed OnStar for the basic package at $169 for the year.
I read enough to know I want nothing to do with them, so I will just ignore them, Thanks
I read those documents. They are pretty scary. You pretty much sign away all your privacy. The 5year "free" use of Remotelink is just a scam to gather marketing info from you for that time period. My thoughts are to stay far, far away.
Have to use it in my wife's Lacrosse... she gets lost just backing out of the driveway. Not a fan of there policies though. They have helped my wife when her car broke down and also when she had a flat. So it has been worth the cost.
