When a dealer places an order, does he receive an order number back at the time he submits the order, or is that furnished later when he receives notification that GM has started to build the car (or queued the car for building)?
Not entirely sure how the whole ordering process goes from the time you make the deal with the dealership and when the car is delivered to that dealership and ultimately me.
Can anyone provide a sequence from the time you sit down with the dealer and he keys the car information into his computer for submission to GM.
The order can be entered at any time. However, some dealers do not enter orders until they have an allocation they can assign the order to. Either way, it makes no difference when the car is built. The advantage to submitting the order immediately is that the customer can get the order number, see the GM OrderWorkbench printout and verify the order is correct (all options, colors, etc.). The disadvantage of entering the order immediately is that the dealer has to change the order if you change your mind on anything.
If your order is entered, it will sit at 1100 until your dealer gets an allocation that he can assign your order to (that means that the allocation includes any items that are on constraint and included in your order and that it is "your turn" at the dealership). Once your order is assigned to an allocation, you will quickly move to 2000 and then shortly after to 3000 and in a few weeks your car will be built.
Until your order is assigned to an allocation, you will sit at 1100 and nothing will happen.

Well, a bit late for me as it was built last Monday but how do I get the GM order workbench printout to see if they got it right?
Thanks,
Phil
A good dealer will provide you a copy when they enter your order, and email you a new copy every time the order status changes. It only takes a few keystrokes to pull it up, and a couple more to save it as a PDF file he can email. Considering the amount of money the dealer is making on a vette, that's the least they can do.
Talked to my dealer and got an order number. Checked the "Track Your Order" website and it shows as my order has been placed.
I know there are codes 1100 2000 2500 3000 and so on. Not sure where to find those. If that's something I can access or if that info is only available to the dealers.
Dealer said (as he was looking on his computer and I was o the phone) that it appeared my car would start getting build 2nd or 3rd week of October (he said they start on Mondays). I should see my car mid November.
I assume he can see more info that I can using the Chevy Order Tracking website.

Yes I did. However, I just now realized it is a "DEALERS ONLY" report.
I hated to bother the dealer asking about the status of my car and thought there was a alternate way to check the status with the codes so many guys reference. Apparently that is not the case since those numbers are for "in-house" monitoring.
Knowing that it's past the preliminarily status and queued to be built in early Oct makes me pretty excited.
yes he does...tell him to pull the workbench report - and who is your "dealer?
the sales guy ?
try the sales manager or the general manager - remind them that you are going to do a delivery survey and good info flow is part of the evaluation....
he can pull this report 100 times a day:
Glen e,
Just under your Event Description (1100) is a Priority number, 9 in your case. My Workbench, also event 1100, dated 9/22 has priority 1.
Do you know if this Priority is a Dealer assigned number or a factory assigned number or something else?
Whatever it is, it's not important. The only things that are important are the code, that it is a (SRE) sold retail order, and it is in your name , not the dealers name.
A dealer makes thousands of dollars off you… It is absolutely his responsibility to get you this report at least twice a week if you want it. You do a survey at the end of the delivery, that costs him hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars if you give him a bad mark. So get with the sales manager (not your sales guy) and remind him you want to give him a good marks, and that includes good info flow to you during the ordering process. An email every couple days with this report or you'll take into account when you do the survey. It works, there is no reason to ask GM for information, when your dealer has it at the tip of his fingers, it is not asking too much. All the good forum dealers have a website that lists the code whenever they change, your local dealer can do the exact same thing to you.
Just my opin, but far too many customers are letting their dealer off the hook, they owe you information any time you ask, big time, they are doing nothing but allowing you to give them thousands of $ on a C7....

I ordered recently and went to 1100 five days ago. I expect to advance in the next allocation cycle per my dealer (Les Stanford).
1100 simply means someone at the dealer managed to type an order into the computer without any errors. You don't really advance to it, because it's the bottom of the barrel. While at Sanford, you do have a good chance of advancing soon, there are no guarantees when at status 1100.
There are quite a few people who went through most of the '14 model year at 1100, and never did get a car. This was either due to their dealer not having adequate allocation, or the customer ordering a car with so many constrained options, that there was little to no chance of the car being built.

I think everyone has given you all the information you need. I would like to suggest that you should have a different expectation from your salesman/dealer. I made my deposit on 9/1/14. On 9/20 I received the Workbench Sheet for the first time (emailed to me). Yesterday, 9/23 I received an updated Workbench sheet with a status code of 2500. The salesman told me to expect it to go to 3000 within days. All of these Workbench updates were unsolicited. My salesman contacted me. This should be the standard. They should be wanting to give you information as soon as they know it and they should be watching for you. This is true customer service.
