Default Transparent sun shades

Like others I had to take a transparent roof in order to get my car. Not real crazy about it. I saw in MidAmerica they sell sun shades for them. They do not list one for a 2015. First, are there others out there, and second, do they work? I would like to see one on a vet, but doubt if that is going to happen. Any opinions on these? Do they make the interior like cheesy. The wife likes the sun beating through but on a hot day, Im not crazy about it.

Mid-America has a different approach:

The MidAm catalog even online is sometimes either confusing or slightly out of date. I'd call and ask since this is a product line that they've had for at least 20 years (they used to call it a "dot matrix" something or other). This is the first time I've seen the darker color and I've had two of the lighter colored ones for older Corvettes. As to efficiency, they do work in cutting out light and heat, allegedly about 40% or some such. It helps. If you ask me the darker color will look classier but I didn't mind the light color because I don't stare up thru the top much.

Thanks, this one looks interesting. Price is cheap enough, so if I don't like it, no big deal. Anybody else try one of these before?

What's the sense in having a glass top that you can see through if you want to cover it up? It's all up to what the climate is, where you are. Arizona? may need one. New York, probably not. Whatever.....

Your basic statement has a flaw, if you read my post you would have seen it. I HAD to order the transparent top, the solid tops were on constraint. When I want the air, I take the top off, but on sunny days, and no I do not live in Arizona, but we do get 90 degree days here, I like being comfortable.

Like you, I had to go with a transparent top just to get my 2014 C7 built. Below is what I went with(from RPI Designs), and, its works like a charm. I live in California where the daytime tep. can get over 100 regularly during the summer months. I also use a SunShield, custom made for the C7. Together, with the windows cracked just a bit, the interior of my C7 stays quite comfortable, even after the car has been sitting out in the sun all day. In the fall, I just pop off the headliner, put it back in the plastic bag it came in, slide it under a spare bed, and, enjoy the beautiful view out the top during the fall, winter, and spring months.

Item Name:
C7 Corvette Transparent Top Roof Liner Headliner
Item #:
C7-DS01
Price
$159.95 $149.95
Average Rating:

C7 Corvette Transparent Roof Headliner Blackout
If you are like any of us at RPI, you know how hot that mid-day Summertime sun can get. Our C7 Corvette Transparent roof headliners are the perfect solution. This headliner is held into place with suction cups that tightly hold it to your glass top. You can easily store the panel when it's not in use.

Why not go to any dealer in your area that does window tinting. They offer films in various shading to clear. The clear I understand will reduce the heat conductivity by 40%.

The above link to Mid America Motorworks looks like a nice fix. With winter right around the corner, I will put this option on the back burner. But will have to get one next summer for sure.

Strange replies in this thread....let me help

I was in the EXACT same position as you. I hate the transparent top, but had no choice to get my C7 when I wanted it.

I have had BOTH the solutions you talked about. Both worked well, but have pluses and minuses.

The Rubber-Matrix:
Very cheap and actually works quite well. It cools the car down substantially and blocks the sunlight 100%. The downside is that the material quality is a little on the shabby side. Not a big issue, but if you are **** about details, might be an issue. Also, once this sucker is on, you wont ever want to take it off. It is a little bit of a chore to get on correctly and have it perfectly centered with no bubbles. You can do it, but it takes time.

The Suction-Cup Insert:
This is what I settled on and its fantastic. Well worth the money and it is a quality piece that looks factory made. The suctions cups work suprisingly well and once in place, it wont come down on its own. Yeah, its a little pricey, but it is perfect for your situation. I don't plan on ever taking mine off the roof as I hate the transparency of the roof.

Someone suggested tinting it. Wont work. I asked my tint guy when I had the windows done and he said that the Lexan will expand and contract with the weather and break the seal on the tint. Also, he said that during the summer, the heat from the sun can get between the tint and the Lexan and actually warp or bubble the top!

Interesting. On the C6 the top was nowhere near "transparent" -- it had a very distinct tint and in fact appeared to be black from the outside looking in. Here in North Carolina, which has weather at least as hot as Illinois, it rarely bothered me at all. The air conditioning cooled things down in just a few minutes. Is the C7 top is less tinted than the C6 was?

The Rubber Matrix one, is that the one sold by Mid America?
