Default Normal trans temp?

Lotsa overheating on the search function, but I set the pocket gauge in sport mode today on a long interstate trip, what the normal operating spec # for this gauge at cruise? Trans is an A6.

I haven’t been on any long trips but here in central TX, when I’ve looked at the gage, it’s been 150-160. Surprised me at how low the temps were.
Don.

Definitely lower temps than the oil numbers. My oil temp stays right where others on the forum have reported, same with water, 206-210. Don

I expect the C7 auto transmission temperature will vary a lot to either side of engine coolant temperature unlike the more common setup where there is a transmission cooling loop inside the radiator. In most cars, and somewhat dependent upon the size of any additional cooler, the heat exchanger in the radiator will serve to warm the transmission fluid more quickly after cold start so under light load conditions (cruising speed with locked converter) I wouldn't be surprised for the C7 transmission to stay very cool.

I just came back from a 5000 mi trip in the southwest US. I have a z51 with a stick and selective ride. My temp was usually in the 225 to 250 range in 7th gear, eco mode with cruise on. Once, in the desert with air temp at 111, it was hovering around 275. I was nervous, but it never got that high again on the rest of the trip.

I may be wrong but I think the question relates to A6s, not M7s. Don

I am amazed that the manual transmission is running so hot when cruising.

Mine is always around 190 where the engine temp is always around 192. They both will go up in stop and go traffic but always to seem to go back to these ranges when I get moving. This is for the A8 trans.

Sounds like you may be looking at oil temp.

Don.
The A6 on my C6 generally runs in the 150 - 160 range as well.
