But be that as it may, I still say that it is going to absolutely SUCK if a $30k Mustang GT hits 500hp before our beloved base coupe, even if it takes a 3000lb engine to do it!
I could care less if a $30K car has more HP than my C7. It's still a $30K vehicle which makes it less exclusive and (IMHO) less desirable.
Same logic applies to Ferrari vs C7. If my C7 has more HP than a Ferrari, does that make my C7 more desirable than a Ferrari? Not a chance.

No argument here my friend, especially having owned two GTs in my lifetime. I never plan on owning one again due to my love for what I currently drive, but nevertheless, it is STILL going to absolutely positively SUCK if the Mustang GT tops 500hp before our base coupe.
GM, I hope you're listening, unlike some of my fellow knuckleheads in this forum. j/k

The Corvette will most likely hit 500 before the Mustang GT, since it is just shy of 500 by only 40 HP (with NPP) and the Mustang GT would have to increase by 65 HP or a whopping 15% to get to 500.

I wouldn't worry about it.
You're probably right. I saw an article not to long ago that stated Ford would be looking to agressively pursue the 500hp mark with the new Stang GT in the next few years. Whatever the case, I hope to see a 500hp base C7 in the next couple of years or so. It will take that, or a hell of a deal like I got on my C6, to corral me into the C7 any time soon. I like the C7 alot, but for my tastes, it does not do enough to differentiate itself from the C6 in straight line performance. (Again, not for my tastes...just my opinion...and my money to spend...save the arguments fanboys, please!)
Historically, every time a new generation Corvette is released many (not all) dealers ask MSRP or MSRP+, based on supply/demand. The excitement around the new generation cuts into demand for the previous generation, so resale prices slip for a while on the previous generation.
But you are saying that for just your area, this 30+ year trend was broken?
How do you really know for sure that resale prices on the C6 wouldn't have been even higher had there been no 2014 C7?
Because, like you, I know everything.... And actually I'm saying they went up pretty much everywhere.
Also, if you actually looked instead of just blathering you'd see it was true
Next up...rebates and loyalty to move the c7. Good times...
C6 prices have tanked. Bought my 2013 GS with all the options in March of 2013 and the MSRP was 72K and paid 59K. Last week I did some tire kicking on a new C7 and best trade in offered was low 40's. Ran a couple of ad's listing the car for $49K and never even got one response. My best guess is I could sell it outright for about 45K for a quick sale but that isn't going to happen as now my plans are to simply wait and enjoy the car until prices start sliding on Z07's which is about 2 years away. Maybe less if I get lucky.

While you are deciphering and laughing at your own jokes, I'm going to bow out of the conversation. To be honest, I really don't care all that much if you think C6 prices went up. You're apt to actually get one or two people that might buy into your theory over on the C6 forum.
Want to talk economics? When the C5 was introduced most buyers were scrambling to try to buy one at list. 5K over list for a in stock car was the norm because there were so few in stock. I finally got my order in for the first of the 2000s and it was still list. I was not familiar with the forum at that time and was only dealing with dealers in NE. Still a friend of mine who was a forum member got a deal in 2000 for $500. off list and considered that very good. Think of the economy in 97-2000. The market was very strong and there was great confidence in the economy. Now we have a great market with no confidence, almost nothing for saving rates etc. It works for old guys like me. I had no thought of buying a C7 but now have a C7 coupe priced out for 74K and if I can get it for 66K it's mine. I can wait. I have my C5&6 + my GTO to keep me busy.
Isn't it incredibly ironic that we have a post talking about C6 prices right here?
Hmm, how is it that RMcoolX got a "hell of a deal" on his 2013 C6, when you said the prices of C6s EVERYWHERE went up after the C7 was released?
It can't be both ways. Prices of C6s everywhere couldn't have gone up if some got what they term a, "hell of a deal", which occurs in a buyers market.
Well, actually mine is a 2012 that I purchased late in the model year. There were some great deals still to be had, however, on 2013s when the C7 was released. At least in Houston, that is.

Well in your avatar it looks a lot like my 13....I gave 40,xxxk for it new in August of 2013....A quick cars.com show 40 or so base coupes, not counting new ones, and all but two list for more than 41k and a couple for 39k...So easy 36k or better trade for excellent...
Not to change the subject back to Mustang but a 500 HP Mustang under 30 thousand would be cheaper then the GT they build now. Someone drank too much before they thought that one up. Thinking about that Mustang who really cares how much horsepower they have? A Corvette compared to a Mustang? Please WTH.
