Thanks for all the good wishes. The car is at a dry reputable Chevy dealer's repair shop. Brian, the guy in the pic, who by the way, is a very accomplished and certified mechanic, knows the C7 inside and out. Well, he better b/c he's doing work inside and out on my C7 😉.

The diminished value will be handled by me and I'll be backed up by AutoLoss.com. I'll keep all posted on this topic.

No, I did not get a lawyer. My body is sore, nothing is broken. Saw my Orthopaedic Surgeon and he did x-Rays and a thorough evaluation. All I'll get with lawyers are doctor visiits, PT, meetings and in the end, nothing b/c nothing is wrong with me and the will be put back to new (I hope).

Not a good sign that there is a blow torch in the first picture...

Sorry for your troubles. .
Question. ..would declaring a total loss be a better approach?

What hit you? Yes, if you can afford to trade for a new one do it or drive your repaired-good as new C7 until you wear it out.

Stopped for a school bus. 2100 Toyota SUV hit the rear of the vette. Claimed she was doing speed limit - mph.

Insurance co will not total the Vette and it shouldn't be. Mechanically still sound.

If you have only cosmetic damage and you like the finished repair then just drive it, say at least 90,000 miles then trade.

My Geico policy has a specific clause exempting them from any claim for diminished value. It seems this is becoming common now.

Before Carfax, no one ever considered the decrease in value after the repairs were completed. It was a secret between the owner, the insurance company, and the body shop.

The key is that they are not going to pay if the accident is your fault. If you (insured by Geico) hit someone else the other person can still go after GEICO because it was not something that person agreed to - only the person insured by GEICO effectively agreed to it when they took out the policy.

Diminished value is real, and it will get paid. The only question is how much.

Ga law requires it. Some other states as well. I just fought this battle and closed it two weeks ago for my wifes landrover.

Another suggestion which i did a couple of years ago is see what the other person at faults limit of coverage is. In ga the minimum is $25,000. A guy hit me in my camaro few years back. His company geico only had him covered for $25,000. With the damage and dmv it totaled more than $25,000.

I had geico write me the $25,000 i kept the car in the shape it was in. I them sold car wrecked for $20,000 and had the check of $25,000. So basically i got paid $45,000 on a $38,000 car.

Just a suggestion. The car will not ever be like it was new.

Insurance companies put that in the policies for their own insured. When a accident is not your fault in some states you can go after the other parties insurance company.

That's the way I understand it also. Additionally, your insurance should be going after the other insurance company on your behalf for any and all losses you suffered.

You're absolutely right. My bad!

I was just thinking about my own coverage on my car. If the other party is 100% at fault, which is the case here, the other party's insurance is responsible to cover your loss up to the limits of their coverage. The rest is the other parties responsibility.
