If you would like a set of the Carbotech 1521 give me a call at 216-780-8825.

$325 for front and rear total.

Carbotech™ Bobcat 1521™ The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

Since the vast majority of C7's will not be tracked and brake dust is always a problem, why doesn't GM step up and install some other pads as stock equipment. ?

The base car's brake pads do not deposit excessive brake dust on wheels. Fact is, less brake grime than my previous C6's base system.

Is there a Video out there that shows how to change the brake pads on the Z51?

Would not think it would be that difficult.

  1. Jack car (I put it up so all 4 wheels were hanging.)
  2. Pop off the wheels
  3. pick a caliper and drive out the 2 chrome pins on the caliper. They will be pushed in from the outside of the caliper toward the center of the car
  4. remove the pad retaining clip (when the pins come out it'll probably fall to the floor)
  5. R/R pads
  6. hold retaining clip in place and insert the 2 chrome pins from the inside of the caliper toward the outside of the caliper Put 'em back like you found 'em
  7. replace wheel and torque to 100 lb ft
  8. Repeat for the other 3 calipers

It took longer to jack it up and pull the wheels than it did to swap out the pads.

One thing!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT. There is a thickness difference in the new pads. Your pedal will go down really low on the first pedal push. Pump up the pedal BEFORE you drive it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After the pedal is up, you're all set.

Just had some Carbotech 1521 pads put on my Z51 (12K miles). Too early to appraise the dusting problem, but the brake screech and squeal noise is terrible during slow speed stop. This needs to improve soon, or back to the original pads

Interesting. I had a low groan at first at the "almost stopped" speed. Pretty much gone away but there definitely was no screech or squeal.

I assume I should have the rotors cut? And how do you know?
Thanks,

Something is different, because I get very close to no brake dust with the Non Z51 pads front or rear.

The pads are different on the Z51! I like the fact that the NON Z51 has extremely low brake dust and the rotors don't rust!

I would have had them prebedded if needed, but Carbotech said not required or offered on the 1521's

Did you clean your rotors up before putting them on?

Also, try putting some heat in them.

I clean my wheels and after a few stops they have a fine brake dust. It makes no difference what product you use. I am going to Ceramic pads just to save my wheel wiping back.

I find it hard to believe the rotors on your Corvette don't rust. Wash the car and leave them wet. see?

Its the discs that are diff, i belive, some special type metal that does not generate the brake dust from the pads. I can do 1000 miles (just did) and on my base wheels, the dust is not visible....
