A8 seems to have more than one problematic issue. Hestioation is one thing. Overheating when driving fast is another thing. We are voting in ask Tadge to send him a question about addressing the overheating problem.

The 2015s coming off the line now have the newer software.

Anyone else notice this on their car?
Yes I have the same problem 2016 665 miles on it, it is in the shop right now. They are reprogramming the transmission?? been three days now? They took one of their new C7's out to compare it.... did the same think. First shift after a three hour wait/cool off it will do it. There is a bulletin out on it so they say and they are going threw that procedure? The scary part for me at the end of my driveway to go there is a lot of traffic all the time... when the car delays a good chance the car coming is on my tail lights and giving me the peace sign.

An oversimplification but I was told the run it hard sometimes because the transmission adapts to your driving habits. If you drive it like a slug it will shift like a slug.

I think that's what they are going to tell me. BUT the car has 665 miles on it I have to break it in before using it normal as I have all the rest I have owned. Like I said there is no way to get out in traffic without having that delay and expecting a bumper hitting my car before it figures out how to shift to 2nd without getting confused. I don't drive like an old lady I use the car even my truck as it was designed to be used. Now I know more about it and can go from there. Thanks

I had similar issues with my '16 A8. I even tried performing the long driving procedure to get mine to shift better. It seemed to help some but now with more miles and driving the car harder the shifting is much better. If the car sits for several days I sometimes get one or two hard 1-2 shifts and a couple rough 3-1 downshifts but that is about it. I do plan to ask about this when I take it in for its first oil change. I now have just short of 4K miles and will have over 5K when I get back from the Bash.

I brought my 2015 A8 to the dealer on April 13 because of "rough shifting". The transmission was re-programmed per Bull #14-07-30-001F. The tech test drove the car 25 miles on highway to complete the procedure.
Bottom line is that shifting is smoother, but that first shift from a cold engine is still abrupt. Not terrible, but not smooth.

Same here. I keep reminding myself that it's a Corvette not a Buick. OTOH have you ever owned a BMW with the SMG tranny? Very rough shifts but it does perform well.

This thread make me feel like I'm having flashbacks to the C6 transmission programming issues. I had hoped that by the time the C7 rolled out that GM would have finally figured out how to program a transmission to shift properly. Guess not.

I never drove anything like a you call slug. The 2014 C7 had the 6 speed auto, that car seemed much faster than this one for starters. This A8 transmission to me is a safety hazard on where I live until it finds out how to shift. Thanks for your time.

I called the dealer again today. They said pick it up at 5 pm today they had one more test to do. What they did was reprogram the Transmission???? 4 days? I told them I'm picking the car up today and will deal with Bowling Green if need be if they said it was not ready. They thing they have it done as the SR Bulletin said to do? Its hard because I don't want to bust their chops when Bowling Green is the ones to deal with it. For me it is a safety issue... but as we should all know when ever anything comes out new it takes time to perfect the thousand of test cars...us.... out there to get the bugs out. I know Tadge and he is a great engineer and person. I'll try to let you know how I make out.. if it is a fix or not.

Hey Jay Got it back last night and it worked fine leaving dealer, was not sure if they had just tested it which it would not have missed a shift if they had warm. Tested it this morning worked fine... and it would have done it if not fixed. So the re-program worked. It took 4 days and I had 40 miles on the car from dealer. It was without question their first time doing it, I'm sure a place that has done it before would not take as long. My research on it the first A8's first had problems and they ended up putting a new revised chip which I'm assuming was in mine because mine was a different problem, actually going into a neutral slip [engine rev up no load] till it figured out 2nd was next.. than worked fine until cooled down and than do the same thing first shift, so the procedure works.

Default Same issue with 2019

Sorry to resurrect this older thread, but I am experiencing this issue with my new Stingray. It only happens after the car has sat overnight or for several hours and in my case, only in Sport Mode. I spoke with my service manager today and he said Chevrolet had just released a bulletin about the issue in October (I guess for the 2019s). They confirmed the issue, but noted that the car was operating normally. The SM joked that I probably didn't want to hear that because of another problem I am dealing with.

This seems to be a reoccurring theme with Chevrolet...yes there is an issue, but it is operating normally. I joked that the Corvette team has some very talented engineering to add these "features" for owners to find. I guess I just have to start in Touring mode then switch to Sport once I'm in 2nd gear. 😀
