I worked on my 2016 C7 and it must be different, because I could never get mine to work. Followed all of your directions and they were great, but I found no purple wire and used omens meter, no luck. Sure wanted to use that mirror mount. This was not easy, but I did it on my jeep JK so thught I could do it on the corvette. Thanks anyway
I did NOT separate the plug and just used the back side of the plug with the wires going into the car NOT the mirror side. Are you sure you were trying to tap the correct side?
This is the pic that is needed (after you remove the small cover.) It shows the back side of the plug with the wires going into the car NOT the wires going into the mirror. Note I did not take the plug apart, as I saw no benefit. In fact the posted forum pic I used to see the colors, black to black, red to purple (this pic I took) was so clear I didn't even bother to check the connections with my meter! Works fine.

So I had the mirror tap in my 2014 Stingray...traded that in and got a 2017 Z06, used the same mirror tap and it worked great...then last week it stopped working after having it in the Z06 for about 2 weeks..I checked the connection and all seemed fine, thought it might be the old mirror tap so I ordered a new one, just tried to get that one working and still the same thing, I cannot get it to work now...
Very puzzled...

Jedi,
You mention not taking off the back cover (PDR). I'm hoping to work on this during the week and I'm excited to know I don't have to fuss with the larger cover (was nervous as well since I have a vert and I've been confused by some the posts regarding the vert).
My question for you is do you route the tap through the top end? I have some pry tools coming this week and I hope to give it a roll.
On a totally different note, I saw in one of your posts that you ran your car at RA. Fellow Wisconsin res?
Thanks

I just finished installing my radar detector on my 2015 Corvette Z-51. I know this isn't the first thread on this procedure, but I had some difficulty interpreting the photos that had been posted, and I'm the kind of guy that wants a lot of detail before tearing into my new car. But I would like to thank dsliman and lachlansands for inspiring me to do this install. By the way, GM has been quoted as saying the C7 mirror is not "mirror tap friendly", but that doesn't mean it can't be done. It's just a little more complicated than with other cars. Here is my detailed guide on how to tap the C7 mirror to power a radar detector:
The cover just forward of the mirror needs to be removed. This photo shows the 5 clips that hold it in place. Cover just pries off.
The mirror mount rear cover needs to be removed straight back toward the windshield.
Best to pry it off starting at the bottom.
Inside the cover is the wiring harness. The two halves need to be separated and the half coming from the car (not the mirror) is the one to tap.
Pop the wiring harness away from the rear cover.
Push the tab on the driver side of the harness to release the rear half, and pull the two halves apart.
Tap the red wire (power) from the mirror tap to pin #2, which is the purple wire on my car. Pin #2 is ignition on, 12 v. The black wire from the mirror tap (ground wire) should be tapped to pin #5, which is also a black wire on my car.
The tapping pins are a VERY tight fit. You may need to pry the vehicle wire aside with a jeweler's screwdriver to make room for the tap. This was particularly true for the power (purple) vehicle wire on my car.
Reassemble the two halves of the harness, snap the harness back into the rear cover, then push the rear cover back on to the mirror mount with the mirror tap wire coming out the top of the rear cover.
Line up the 5 clips, and push the cover that houses the performace data recorder back on.
Install the Blendmount, the radar detector (mine is Escort 9500ix) and it works / looks great!

I also saw no reason to separate the plug! You're just putting the Blendmount wires in the back of the plug that has the wires coming from the top (the car) NOT the end with the wires going to the mirror.
When snapping the cover back, found since I could not see the driver's side, it was not going over the outside. Once I put both sides on the outside it snapped and clicked closed.

Just finished mine. Slam dunk! Don't have to remove the PDR cover. I don't know how you guys got the cable out without Dremeling a slot for it. I tried, but Dremeled and it's perfect. Got my mirror tap from Amazon here https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Got the 10" cable. They shipped it next day for free. Used the next to largest taps in the kit and they slid right in. As someone previously mentioned, sit backwards in the passenger seat. 30 minutes.

A helpful hint:
I could NOT get the small round pins into the socket and bent one badly trying. I happened to have some from another project so I was able to replace it, but after that the "problem" was still there. SO I took the wire/pin assy over to my little harbor freight belt sander and trimmed them to a chisel point (about an 1/8" shallow angle both sides). They slid right in like it was designed that way. You could accomplish the same thing with a whetstone, points file, or emery paper. Just do that first......

OK, just finished this install on my 2017 Z06. What got me is that there's no power in accessory mode, you actually have to start the car, then all works fine.
I just popped the back cover off the mirror, not the PDR cover. Used a small Swiss army knife blade, and tapped purple and red as other have said.

Here's an idea, why can't car makers make switched power ports available from the factory? Most of us run something that requires power up by the rear view mirror. Why make us tap for power. I would pay for that option!
