After going back-and-forth again and again trying to figure out whether I wanted to blacking out my tail lights or not I finally did something. I have been using some red throughout my car lately as a third color to the black-and-white color combo and now think that the red brake lights look pretty good so I just placed acrylic blackouts over the center clear sections.
Here are some shots in full sunlight.

be careful if the blackout material is polaroid material because if a driver behind you is wearing polaroid sun glasses he may not see your brake lights come on as that happened to me and I almost hit the other car.

Its only tinting his reverse light area. Not the brakes..
Thanks everybody! These pieces only cover the clear backup portion of the tail lights.
Don over at RPI made them up for me and now has them up on his website.
These looked good seeing them in person today. Congrats on your trophy from the show by the way
Nice meeting you at the car show Sun. My son and I walked over to your car but you weren't around. You've done a nice job with your mods so far but my sons favorite part was the matching remote control car!

Ever since I saw the tail lights I was always trying to figure out what it was about them that bugged me and now I've finally figured out it was the white lights inside the red. These partial blackouts are now a "must have" for me.
To the OP, are they easy to install? Is it possible to screw them up or are they fool-proof?

Start out by making sure the lens is completely clean by using a 50-50 alcohol and water solution. Then just do a couple dry runs to make sure you get the idea of how to place them properly because once that tape sticks it's a bit tricky to remove. You will notice there is a tiny slit across the top where the acrylic piece slides slightly into in order to get a perfect fit. The whole job took me about 15 minutes to do and I was going very slow.
