Default "Performance Shift Active"

Driving in Sport mode, "Performance Shift Active" showed up oncreen when I kept on the gas while driving in a high spirit mode.

Is that a bad thing?
Will it hurt the transmission?
Or is that normal performance feature of the Vette?

Thanks,

I have read another post on this and still am not sure what it does and what triggers it. I had it happen once and the trans acted if it didnt want to shift.

Can someone explain it?

I can't really explain it but I can tell you that I've seen 2 behaviors that seems to cause it to activate. One is expected and one was a surprise to me.

On the roads that I drive regularly there is an onramp to the highway. It is a long slightly inclined onramp, probably about a 1/2 mile long. Very clear sight of the road. When there are no cars in front of me I will get on it and as the trans is getting closer to shifting I will see "Performance Shift Activated" if you get off the gas at this point you will notice the trans seems to keep the RPM higher before shifting.

Another road that I drive on has a rotary (or roundabout) on a road near an airport, it is not a busy road at the time of day that I drive it. I come into the rotary and take the first road so it is basically a 90 degree turn. I will sometimes come into it and not use my brakes, I will turn the car hard but I'm not on the gas. I would say I am probably doing 30MPH or so. It seems that the hard turn also causes "Performance Shift Activated" to activate.

Hope this helps.

-Mark

From an earlier GM document when this system appeared several years ago:

"Performance Algorithm Shifting (PAS) -- PAS is a transmission algorithm that looks at lateral acceleration,
throttle, and vehicle deceleration activity to determine if the vehicle is being driven in a competitive manner. If the
algorithm recognizes these conditions, it can force downshifts and hold lower gears for optimized vehicle
performance.
Performance Algorithm Lift Foot (PAL) -- PAL minimizes upshifts during closed throttle driving and cornering to
prevent unnecessary shifting.

It's a great feature and for the life of me I don't understand why they don't allow you to select this mode in one of the track settings or make it the default mode whenever you are in track mode.

I'm not saying don't allow it in sport or touring, keep it the way it is today, just turn it on whenever track mode is selected.

So do you have to manually turn it on?
If so, how?

or does it turn on automatically according to how you drive?

Is this feature on the A6 or A8 - or on both? I've made some fairly long runs holding 3/4 throttle steady for maybe 1/2 to 3/4 mile in both sport and track. I never saw this this come on with my A8. I'm running from 10/15 MPH up to well over a 100. ???

This is out of the 2015 Manual and is the same with the 2014 A6.

Transmission Shift Mode − Paddle
Shift Automatic

. Adjusts to either a smoother or
firmer shift.

. Sport – Performance Algorithm
Liftfoot (PAL) recognizes
aggressive throttle maneuvers
and holds lower gears for
greater engine braking and
enhanced vehicle control when
not using paddles. (Available in
Sport or Track mode.)

. Track – Performance Algorithm
Shift (PAS) recognizes
aggressive cornering, heavy
braking, and high acceleration to
select and hold lower gears
when not using paddles.

Thanks - I've noticed when I do a fairly long run, when I let up it stays in what ever gear it's in for a couple seconds before up-shifting on its own. I just don't remember seeing any pop-up message, but I probably didn't notice it; next time I'll look for it. Fortunately I work at an airport and my route to work parallels a long runway on airport property that is smooth and rarely has any traffic. 1/2 mile straight with 90 degree corner followed by 1 mile long straight. Easy to get carried away as it is a 40 MPH speed-limit. Nice summer runs, but treacherous in the winter with blowing snow.

It's really cool when you're in the mountains. A hard stomp on the throttle can activate it and it works for about 10 sec. If you don't keep driving hard it will return to normal in about 10 sec. If you hit the brakes while it's active it does some really cool (and fast) downshifting. Makes me smile every time and mutter something like smart a** tranny, love ya .

I had it happen for the first time the other day when I hit the gas hard and it scared the s**t out of me. Thought I had blown the engine.

This is something I really want an option to keep on at all times when in track mode. I would prefer to be able to know exactly when it would come on and go off than to have it arbitrarily happen while driving around town.

YES! I use it to my advantage at times to announce my presence. For us motorcyclists it's like downshifting or blipping the throttle to say 'hey, watch it!'

It definitely makes an impression ( '14 Z51 auto)

Sorry to bump a two year old thread, but a quick question. Do the non Z51 models also have "performance shifting"? I had a pretty "spirited" session a few hours ago and nothing popped up.
