Default Dealer Allocation

Is there any real way to tell if a dealer actually has an allocation they say they have? A local dealer says they have an allocation that can be input into the ordering system on Tuesday. Says it should be produced in 6 weeks.
I don't want to place an order and still not have a car in 6-12 months like other forum members I have seen.
Also, has anyone on this forum dealt with this dealer before (*** Chevrolet in Bradenton, FL)?

Thanks

What they're saying sounds good but it's smart to be cautious. I would suggest confirming they mean GM will pick it up (code 2000) and not just that they put the order in (code 1100). You check your order status here or with Customer Assistance as long as they give you an order number. If you're concerned, you can always get what they're saying in writing and insist they give you order updates each week. If you are staying at 1100 then you should probably bail.

Also have you checked into the GM discounts? The credit union discount is great and anyone can use it. I would check if they will accept it if they aren't already giving you a discount. If not, I suggest going with a big forum dealer.

I bought my '15 triple black coupe from *** one month ago. They had it in stock and I did not want to go through the order/wait process. They gave me Credit Union discount which came to over $6000 and I held out for what I wanted for my '07 convert in trade. They are a great group of guys but will probably try to deal hard. Stick to your guns and they will probably give you the deal you want. Just hold out for it. I actually walked out and they called me while I was driving home. I turned around after he knocked another $650 off the price and then drove home in the new car. *** is a family owned business. I dealt with Latravis Washington on the phone first after finding *** on the internet. He is their internet guy, not a salesman. He referred me to salesman Ron Potts when I arrived at the dealership. Ron is a car guy and a pleasure to deal with. Final negotiations were with the sales manager and I do not even remember his name. Mostly because he gave me all the salesman BS that you usually get from the hard sellers. I do recommend buying from them and I think if they say they have something, they have it. Good luck. You can tell Ron that Larry Metz recommended him to you.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I insisted on GM employee discount or I would go elsewhere. They said they would honor the GM employee discount even on the Z51. Which brings up a question, do I have to worry about them not honoring the discount or is it input into the ordering system that way? Do I need anything in writing?

By the way, they were one of only 2 dealers I could find in southern Florida that will give the Credit Union discount. If you do not belong to a credit union, you can join MidFlorida which is what I did.

Thanks Larry. I also have a 2007 victory red convert (33K miles) to possibly trade in. If you don't mind me asking how much did you get on your trade-in? I've been working with Finian.

The discount does not go into the order system. Get a written sales agreement that specifies exactly what you will be paying.

They offered me 23,000 for my Lemans Blue convert. I told them there was no way that was going to work and that I wanted 30,000. My car had 18,000 miles and was near mint. They kept increasing their offer by 1,000 each time. They were at 29,000 when I walked out. Ended up getting about 29,650 for my trade. When I figured what I was saving on sales tax by trading it in, I got real close to what I would have been able to sell the car for myself and I avoided going through the painful process of selling a car!!! Autotrader.com has several '07 converts listed and they are asking in the 30-35,000 range. Over all, I would go to them again to buy my next Corvette.

Based on your original post, go into the dealer on Wednesday and ask to see the OrderWORKBENCH document. It should show status 2000 "Order accepted By GM." If it's still status 1100 "Order placed at dealership," then they did not have an allocation.

Your dealer can pull up your status with a few keystrokes. He can then either print out the full OrderWORKBENCH document, or save it as PDF file and email it to you. A good dealer will have no problem with this. After all, you are spending close to 70K on a Chevy, they can at least keep you informed. My last two vettes, the dealer sent me a weekly email as well as a copy of the OrderWORKBENCH anytime the status changed.

If your dealer is unwilling to do this (and that should tell you something,) you can go to this thread

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ng-thread.html

Give them your order number and the state of the dealer. In a day or two, they will get back with your status. Please follow the guidelines in the first post of that page and don't request more than 1 update per week and give them a couple days to respond.

Just my $0.02 worth, but the GM tracking site is pretty basic and about worthless.

As stated above, no it's not placed into the ordering system. However, as mine did, your inventory manager (The one who inputs into Workbench) can run your order through GM Autobook and it will output your orders MSRP and related discount, in my case Supplier, in essence it is a hard copy showing your discount and who prepared it (i.e. inventory manager) in my case I had no doubts on getting the discount, but this printout would back up your case if needed.

Congrats…maybe…..start reading about allocations and constraints, you may or may not be getting a car, depending on the dealer.....

think of it like sending a UPS package - he wrapped the package and sent it on his doorstep (order input) but no telling when the truck is coming to pick it up...He's called UPS, but they have not said when they would come by........it could sit on the doorstep forever...
:
just remember an order # does not mean much - you are looking for code 2000 on this workbench order....he can pull this report below for you 10 times a day if he wants...until it says 2000 in the red circle, you really have nothing, a car is not being built for you. And notice how my name is on it, not the dealer name:

DONT DEPEND ON FORUMS OR THE CHEVY SITE TO UPDATE YOU, MAKE YOUR DEALER WORK FOR THE THOUSANDS HE IS MAKING OFF YOU. After you deliver, you will get a survey, if you burn him, it costs him huge money. Tell the sales manager - not the sales guy - that you would love to give him good marks, but if you can't get info on where your car is in the process, you’ll have to give him less than perfect. It works more often than not to slap him into line. They think you don’t know about the survey at this point in ordering….

One other thing just because he has an allocation they may not be able to get what you want. Say you want chrome wheels or Z-51 those options may not be available.

my general manager sat me down at his desk and showed my the allocation he had at the time for my 2015. I said lets order it and he did right in front of me and got a confirmation from GM in seconds. That was June 26...my car was built August 14 and I picked it up on September 2.
