Very close to upgrading to a C7, and going with the auto for the 1st time for a change (getting older and getting stuck in ore stop-and-go traffic). My friend just got the 8 speed a few weeks back and he says he never bothers with the paddle---he puts it in "S" or "T" and goes.
Are the paddle shifts fun to use? Do they make a difference, e.g., for downshifting on the highway and giving the car some gas to blow past somebody or to switch lanes, etc.? Or, are they really just for show?

I have an A8 and the trans shifts very fast at WOT and in "S" (sport) or "T" (track) shifts are firm and fast at 1/2 throttle etc. I agree with your friend normal driving in S or T paddles aren't necessary -- BUT They are fun if you have some room to row them up and down through the gears. As far as using them to BLOW past somebody -- just stab the pedal in S or T and the car and trans will take care of the passing -- and if you have NPP - pretty loud also. One caution: don't nail it while in the process of changing lanes unless your ready for some steering and driving challenges. Rear steps out pretty quick in S or T mode.

You and Mike (post below yours) seem to be right on the money. The Corvette Magazine that arrived this afternoon had an article on the 2015 C7 8 speed automatic-----they flat out said just putting it in 'track' or 'sport' is the way to go.
