Default New Stingray Convertible Ordered

Well, I convinced a lot of other people how good the new C7's are and acted on my own advice and ordered a 2015 Crystal Red convertible about two weeks ago. This is the first Corvette I have ordered as a new build, so I have been following with interest other Forum members adventures with their Stingrays. I did not order any option with constraints, so hopefully there will be nothing to hold things up. It is still very early in the process and I am at 1100 - Preliminary Order Accepted, but I am hoping for some movement before too long. Wish me luck. I have attached a GM file photo which is close, but not exactly with the options I ordered.

Congrats…maybe…..start reading about allocations and constraints, you may or may not be getting a car, depending on the dealer.....

think of it like sending a UPS package - he wrapped the package and sent it on his doorstep (order input) but no telling when the truck is coming to pick it up...He's called UPS, but they have not said when they would come by........it could sit on the doorstep forever...
:
just remember an order # does not mean much - you are looking for code 2000 on this workbench order....he can pull the report below for you 10 times a day if you wants...until it says 2000 in the red circle, you really have nothing, a car is not being built for you. And notice how my name is on it, not the dealer name:

DONT DEPEND ON FORUMS OR THE CHEVY SITE TO UPDATE YOU, MAKE YOUR DEALER WORK FOR THE THOUSANDS HE IS MAKING OFF YOU. After you deliver, you will get a survey, if you burn him, it costs him huge money. Tell the sales manager - not the sales guy - that you would love to give him good marks, but if you can't get info on where your car is in the process, you’ll have to give him less than perfect. It works more often than not to slap him into line. They think you don’t know about the survey at this point in ordering….

Thanks for the info. I sat down with the dealer on Friday as he went in to the order system. Apparently allocations are based, at least to some degree, on movement of existing Corvette inventory. They delivered two Stingrays last week, so I am hoping for some movement on my order.

Finalized my order with the dealer on October 27th, showed as a placed order on Chevy's website on November 6th, and jumped to status code 3000, queued for production, on Monday November 10th. Now has a targeted production week of 12/8.

What was interesting in my case is that my dealer did not receive an allocation for my car on Thursday as is typical. As Chevy absorbed the orders throughout the country, appears there were unused allocations from other dealers and my order was picked up by GM on a Monday.

You are going to love it. The C7 is my fourth convertible, the total power top is the best ever. This summer my car's top was down more than the all the previous convertibles added together. No latching/unlatching or fiddling with top, boots, or covers. Just the touch of a switch.

Good luck on your order. I was under the impression there would be no 2015 convertibles due to some constraints. I have not heard what any of the constraints were but had heard there would most likely be no 2015's. I hope I'm wrong. I have a 14 vert in limerock green with black top, interior and wheels. Love it!

We traded in a 2010 Grand Sport 3LT that had a power top. Still had to unlatch the top at the front, but it worked well. We still have our '67 Sting Ray that we have owned for almost 40 years.

they are, but not on cars moved this week, the sales history is monthly averaged so it's more than the two he's just sold. Keep asking him about his allocations and where you are in the Que...Be prepared to get the car somewhere else...this site is littered with people who could not get the car in a timely fashion from their local dealer...

I don't know where you've been but there have not been any convertible-specific constraints. Many 2015 convertibles have been built since day one of 2015 production, they're currently being built, and there's no indication that production will be interrupted.

I can personally attest to the statement above. After a lot of reading in the Forum and understanding (eventually) perfectly how the allocation system works, I did the math after I dragged the facts (allocations, constraints, my place in the queue, etc.) out of the sales manager and realized that it was likely my car would not be built until 2015. Cancelled, ordered from a Forum dealer, and went to 3000 three days later. Buyer education is of the utmost importance with these cars while they are selling like they are!

Thanks. I am in a good position in the que. Still have faith in my dealer.

That's fine, just understand that it's not really up to your dealer how long your wait is. You'll get your car but how long it takes for your order to get picked up is determined by GM, not your dealer. (I know that I'm merely stating the obvious.) If you're not ordering any items that are on constraint, that will definitely help. There's at least one other person on this forum who has an order with your dealer and who's been waiting quite awhile to move past 1100 but to no avail as of yet. Hopefully, you got a good deal. These days anything much higher than GM Supplier Pricing is more than you need to pay. (Last I heard, Grey wasn't offering Supplier Pricing.)

Listen to these guys...their advice is dead on. It old not give a local dealer much more than a month to get the order picked up or I would move on. I guess it all depends on if you actually want a car and if you want it in a timely manner. Orders are picked up on Tuesdays. If you were to order with a forum dealer Monday, you would be at 3000 on Tuesday. It is as simple as that. So just keep that info in your back pocket when and if you decide to pull the plug with your local dealer.
