Damn
Ok, so I Finally bought my first vette, I worried whether to change out "break in" oil and was repeatedly told there was no need to anymore and here comes this bulletin. I now have 1600 miles on her (the first 1100 driving home). I guess I will get an oil change next week and hope for the best. I would like to know the reasoning behind the change.

In the future, it would be better to PM a moderator rather than leaving it to chance that we see something like this.

My car went in for the oil burping problem, they drained it down and cleaned it up. I asked about the free oil change and they said below 20%. It would be real nice if the dealers and GM got on the same page. Now I have 3500 miles and the car is in the garage for the winter, I will take it up in the spring and have it done. As far as I am concerned any problems fall on them for 3 years so no big deal as the car will be gone by then. Not proud of my attitude but I have no choice in the matter.

Obviously a good move financially from corporate as a band aid response to recent C7 failures. It's a response that says look we are doing something. If in fact they get a particular car in early may discover a problem and fix it before a major failure. Now if they were taking that spent oil and filter and sending it for an metal analysis then might suggest a problem analysis. Change in oil policy interval has gone on since the beginning of automobile history. My wife's new MB oil first oil change interval is 10,000 mile.

Why are you not proud of your attitude? It's exactly the correct attitude and why we pay the big bucks on a new car with a warranty. Besides, this is obviously a prophylactic measure to protect the corporation against future loss (reference that warranty again) which, when you consider they sold over 17000 dry sump motors could mean dropping the failure rate from 0.5% to 0.3%. I think you have better odds of winning the lottery than experiencing an engine failure because the oil wasn't changed at 500 miles.

Well changed mine at 484 miles just like I always do. Oh I have idea why the oil change, but am not saying why. I used Mobil 1 dealer my dealer did mine I supplied oil they supplied labor and filter free.

500 mile oil change
Makes it fun for the Museum Delivery cars that drive back home. I guess you better stop at 500 miles at a GM dealer or your favorite Quick Lube/Walmart first.

I doubt we'll ever get a specific, truthful answer as to why.....Just some common sense says its not the oil burp problem as that would be handled with a "check the level" bulletin, I can only think it has to do with the recent failures, and the oil being contaminated or carrying mfr debris from the added Z51 components......can't be much else....

ya I also changed my oil at 1000 miles even though tons of people on this forum said it was not needed... I will go back to dealer and tell them its time for a change, they use moble 1.... I have owned my car for over a year no issues,(engin wise) but I did get AMSOIL and filter. hopefully it has a decent shelf life. because my dealership owes me 2 more changes.......I hope that 100$ I spent on the Amsoil is worth it. I have never tried it before, back to topic...I dont think if you have 700 miles on your vette, that you need to panic. IT is good practice to change oil IMO after breakin

Brought Z51 into dealer for something else and they changed the oil 800miles and mentioned the new 500m oil change recommendation

In decades old retrospect, I cannot ever remember hearing or reading about any case of a domestically sold vehicle having problems because of 'oil', except reading once of I believe a BMW owner never changing oil for tens of thousands of miles. Of course, this observation obviously eliminates anyone whose vehicle ran out of oil! I'm much more concerned about problems related to electronics than of lubrication.
