So the glass company called me and said that they had 8 windshields in stock and all of them were damaged. At that point I told them I want a windshield directly from a GM dealer to ensure it's GM certified. They said my insurance will most likely cover the added cost but they have to wait until Friday to get authorization. It's about a $400 difference in price. In the meantime I called 2 local dealers to see if they had them in stock to expedite the process and the answer was no. So I have to wait until Friday to order the windshield and then wait 3-5 working days for it to be delivered. So it looks like end of next week best case and probably the following week to get it installed.
The good news is I got all my Christmas lights up while waiting for the installer.....
Thanks to your posting I checked with my insurance company today about glass coverage and found it's part of my comprehensive coverage which had at $500 deductible. When she told me that it would cost $21 every 6 months for $0 deductible I signed up immediately.

I thought windshields have to be replaced for free due to it being a safety concern? At least I think that is the law in Florida by me..?
Update on my windshield issues. Glass company called back and said State Farm approved the added cost of a certified GM windshield directly from the Chevy dealer. I should have it installed by end of next week.
Now for the interesting part. While driving to the Phoenix Auto Show today a rock flew up from an 18 wheeler and took a good sized chunk out of my already cracked windshield. So the delay in getting my windshield replaced last Wednesday was a blessing in disguise. If I had it replaced Wednesday I'd be going back for another new one 2 days later....whew!!!!
And as for some of the comments regarding Corvette windshields being soft and easily damaged, there must be some credence to that. This is my 3rd windshield being replaced. I had 2 replaced on my C6 and one on my C7. Maybe it's because they're made offshore or maybe it's just the hazards of driving in AZ.
I have a theory about the issues with cracked windshields. While removing my targa top today, and looking at the crack, I realized that when I put my top back on I tend to line up the 2 holes in the back and then I always push down the front to get it in place and seal before I get inside and latch the 3 latches. Sometimes I have to pound on the front of the top to get it seated and I'm wondering if I may be damaging or weakening the top of the windshield, as that is the location of the crack. I saw a video on the Forum last week where the dealer lined up the top but then got in the car and pulled the front down using the inside latches. It looked like a good way to install the top. Just a theory. What do you think?
Got a call from the glass company. The "GM certified" windshield came in and it was damaged. Something to do with the retainers on the bottom coming loose. So they ordered a new one from the dealer. More to come....
I also had mine replaced about 3 months in. There have been quite a few of these on the forums. Mine was OEM and took a week to locate one. It was $900 here in San Diego. Unfortunately I had a $500 insurance deductible which is now $100. Don't want to get burned again!
Sorry to hear about your windshield, OP. I will be sure to put Classic Car Spa on blast to all of my friends and family. One of the very few pitfulls of living in Arizona..rock on the road EVERYWHERE. It's unfortunate how common cracked windshields are.

It's funny, I've replaced multiple windshields on my C6 and now C7, but my wife's 2 Lexus RX350s have never experienced a chip or crack in 8+ years. I really think it has something to do with the height of the vehicles. The Corvette is so low to the ground and the RX350 is much higher. I bet most rocks that fly up hit the RX350's grill without ever getting as high as the windshield. Just a theory.

Use some of that C-7 H.P. to pass those trucks immediately and don't stay behind them.
Happened to me on Sunday. Nice little chip right in the middle of my HUD. It is small and hardly noticable so I think I am going to try to have it repaired rather than replaced at this point.

Those on this thread who are getting lots of rock chips might take a look at your driving style. If you ignore normal spacing and like to hang only 1 or 2 car lengths behind cars ahead of you that might perhaps be the problem.

This is true (in Florida) you should get at least (1) per year...another part of "how many miles do you drive everyday" conversation....you are paying for it
"In Florida, all drivers who carry comprehensive insurance coverage on their vehicles are eligible for "free" windshield replacement."
"A few states maintain special statutes that mandate insurance coverage for replacement windshields. Auto insurance providers in these states can't force policyholders to use their deductibles to pay for the cost of windshield repair or replacement. Since the value of most policies' deductibles exceeds that of the typical windshield replacement job, these rules may save insured parties hundreds of dollars over the lives of their policies. The states that currently have these statutes on the books include Florida, South Carolina and Kentucky."
