I bought a replacement GPS to take the place of another aftermarket unit that got crunched. It was identical from what I could tell.
The new unit frequently gives me very strange routings compared to the old unit. Sometimes it will command a turn, then almost immediately reverse itself.
I don't know why, but there seems to be a big variation in performance from one unit to another.
Brand new Corvette and the Nav does not show any of the streets in my area but my Garmin that was updated over a year ago shows them all. That is why I hate over priced manufacturer Nav systems. And to add insult to injury they charge $200++ to
get a worthless update. For $1800 you should get free updates for life.
Tony - There is no bulletin, TSB, or recall concerning the C7's Nav "Red X" issue that I'm aware of, but it seems GM is slowly getting the word out to the dealerships about how to fix it. If you find you are having the Red X problem call your dealer to find out if they are aware of fix, if they are not, have them contact GM and get the information, and I suggest you confirm your dealership has this repair information before you take your C7 in (you don't want them experimenting to find the fix).
I called my dealership last week and was told they had been contacted by GM have the repair information. Mine is going in for the Nav fix this week. I'll post the results.
Follow up - My dealership performed the rear view mirror mod and my Nav system works perfectly now.
