Default C7 vs C6

I am considering replacing my C6 Z51 with a C7. For those of you that have done this already, what difference did you experience? And...was it worth it?

My car is 10 years old, so it is about time either way. Just don't know if the feeling would be "I buy my car again" or if there are a number of things that feels like a difference.

This should get fun.

I traded an '08 C6 coupe for my C7 in April. I haven't missed my C6 for a second. The C7 is a much better, and more refined car. The interior quality of the C7 (I have 3LT) makes the C6 interior look even more cheaply made than before. You won't regret going from a C6 to a C7.

Traded in the 2013 C6 base car for the 2015 C7-Z51-2LT-A8. Makes the C6 look 'plain' in comparison! ABS-olutely love the Stingray design. As stated, interior is also better. All around a much better car and bargain to boot.

Sold my '08 Z51 3LT in May of 2013 and had to go thru the summer without a Vette for the first time since I was 23 years old. (I'm 42) Luckily I had my VCoupe to get me thru it. I did this because I got a fantastic offer and figured that the value of the C6 would drop as soon as the C7s arrived. Even withthe potential tax savings I ended up correct and made out having to only come up with a "few " dollars when I bought my '14 Z51 3LT. Couldn't be happier

The C7 is a much more advanced automobile than the C6 was. This should be expected, the C6 design is rather old. The C7 has the much stiffer frame, the latest generation of MSRC, the consumer electronics are way ahead of what is in the C6. Interior quality is much better with better materials. The seats are much better (although some complain about them because they have higher seat side bolsters). The fact is the seats are much better for spirited driving - they hold you in place.

I don't miss my C6 at all.

I love both the C6 and the C7, but that are vastly different cars. Personally, I like the comfort of the C6 a little more, but love the C7. I have a 2013 427 convertible and a 2014 C7 and love both cars, but I must admit the interior in the C7 is better and both cars are so different in so many ways. You can't go wrong going with the C7 and you will be pleased. The comfort of the C7 is also very good, but I personally feel there is a little more room in the C6 for the driver.

I had a 2010 GS vert with 4LT and traded it in for a '14 Z51 vert with 3LT.
IMO, everything about my C7 is an improvement over the my old C6, especially the performance level. I have zero regrets on making the change and am so looking forward to Spring!

Default Convinced

I think you have convinced me guys. I didn't expect such a unison response. I truly appreciate it. I will head over and try one out.

Second question, probably for a separate thread, still adding it in here to see if anyone has any advice.

I used my C6 for track days and have modified it with Pfadt coil over suspension, Kooks headers, Vararam, Stoptech ST40 brakes, brake ducts, 4 pt Schroth harness etc. I did 22 events in total with the car. It never missed a beat. Very fast on track and as comfy as standard on the road. Two years ago I crashed a race car that I was part owner of. That made me shelf the helmet. No more track driving since.

Is the only way to sell a car like this via a enthusiast forum or would a dealer actually dare taking it in? I am not going for money back or anything like that, just don't want to drop it and feel 100% humiliated. I guess I should ask them and see what they say. Interested if anyone has done a similar journey?

PeO.

dealer will take just about anything...just don't expect to get anything extra for the work done to the car.

As for C6 vs C7. I have both in my garage still. C6 feels old compared to the C7 but I still find it's a blast to drive.

Things I don't like about the C7 compared to the C6...

interior space
throttle response
gearing

That's about it. The throttle I find is a bit "mushy". I'm sure an ECU tune can fix that but the first 1/4 throttle is nothing. Also after some spirited runs when you back off the throttle I can tell the ECU is still giving the motor fuel. The car seems to hang the RPMs up top to smooth out the deceleration.

Default I just experienced the change

Traded in my 08 coupe A6 with mag ride about a week ago. Bought a 2015 A8, Z51 with mag ride and 3LT. The new car is so advanced in every aspect except interior space. But that is not much of an issue. It is almost like moving from a C4 to a C5. That much difference. Do it.

I traded my 11 1lt cpe for a 14 3lt cpe (both non Z51), the difference between the 2 cars is remarkable. I can say it was a great move. You will not be disappointed.

Biggest upgrade to me is the interior. My last C6 was a 2012 GS 4lt. No comparison.

Went from a '10 GS to a '11 CTS-V to '15 Z51. GM was finally able to close the gap between the Corvette and Cadillac on interior quality and technology while retaining the performance.

My last Corvette was a 2005 coupe with Z51, MZ6, 1SB, and navigation. I bought the car new; to say that I loved it would be a huge understatement. Fast forward to 90 days ago when I took delivery of my 2015 Stingray with Z51, magnetic ride control, 2LT, and navigation. The 2015 is vastly superior to my 2005 in every possible way. Truthfully, I don't even know where to begin. While the LS2 is no slouch, the LT1's acceleration blows the LS2 out of the water. The 7-speed manual with rev matching is a stroke of sheer genius. The C7's electric power steering (with it's variable effort) gives the car a very high quality feel. The sounds produced by the NPP exhaust can be downright sinister.

Then there's the interior. Frankly, I don't even know where to start. Even the 1LT comes with stitched and wrapped upper dash and door panels (though only the 3LT uses genuine leather). The HUD is full color. The driver-configurable gauge cluster is reminiscent of a glass cockpit in an airliner. The MyLink infotainment system is light years ahead of the C6's system. The seats are finally both sturdy and comfortable. While I admit that not everyone agrees, to me the Stingray's interior rivals that of cars costing 2 - 3 times as much; I totally love it.

Finally, there's the driving experience. (Keep in mind that I loved my C6 the entire 9 years I owned it.) The C7 to me feels like I'm driving a MUCH more expensive car. I really don't know how to put it into words. Everything that I stated above combines to produce a driving experience that is quite literally the best I've ever had, and that's saying something.

Hope this helps.

My Z51 C6 will likely be staying with me. Did too much work to it to get it the way I wanted. Z06 brakes, wheels and rubber, really nice sound system, and Vortech SC making a bit over 600bhp. Other smaller stuff as well. I love it, the wife loves it and not in a hurry to move on. I will test drive the C7Z and see how that goes.

Different situations deserve different replies. After having your C6 for 10 years, and getting ready to replace - 100% - go for the C7. You will be overwhelmed. It IS a completely different car.

If you were only a year or two into your first C6, answer could be different, as the C6 is an amazing car in itself. But it's a no brainer for you.

The C6 was a great car and my 09 2lt was a hell of a performance bargain. Car looked great and ran like a best with the LS3 and A6. Sure it wasn't as fast as some guys but it pleased me which is enough. The interior was what it was, nothing to write home about, but not as bad as some would have you think. The car still looked great and sat low to the ground (too low imho) and had a bad *** stance. The exhaust (Corsa Sports) gave it that mean sound i wanted, car was just freaking cool.

The C7 is a much different car. Very cool, futuristic, exotic. You will turn a lot of heads in the C7. Yesterday i saw a beautiful crystal red c7 on the highway (i was in my DD, a crystal red cruze) and i couldn't help staring over at the guy because the car was so damn sharp. The design has a total WoW factor the old car, as good as it was, might have been missing.

The interior is....a lot has been said about this....phenomenal. Mine has the 3lt with carbon fiber dash, very nice digs inside. Much better that the previous generation cars. All of them.

If one thinks of these cars as "killing machines", just to use a metaphor, then think of the C6 as John Wayne and the C7 as James Bond. Both every effective with a lot of swagger, but very different approaches to their intended mission.
