Default PDR Playback issue: no audio

As the title indicates, I am not getting audio on playback with the PDR. Yes, the volume is up. It has worked, but not now. Any thoughts? Faulty SD card maybe? It won't play audio on the computer either. I'm thinking the SD card is faulty, (SanDisk 64 GB formatted). Any thoughts appreciated.

wasn't there a recent GM update that disables the audio part ? have you had
any service work done lately where the dealer may have flashed the update ?

I'm having the same issue. It plays back with sound in the car, but not in quicktime. I opened it in iPhoto and it worked just fine.

Tried emailing a copy to my phone and no sound there either.

Can't find a solution to the issue. Doesn't make sense to me.

On my Mac, it won't play the audio in QuickTime. The Mac converts the video into a format that can play on the Mac and the audio gets lost. It will play correctly on a Windows computer. YMMV.

Thanks for this info. I was wondering what happened to the sound also. No GM update because the sound still comes through when played back in the car.

Don't know if my problem is related to yours but my PDR audio is very poor quality. Conversation in the car is barely intelligible and all sound is muffled. Been trying to figure out where the mic for the PDR is located but have not been successful with that. Not sure if I have a problem or if the PDR audio just sucks period.

I assumed it was located on the left of the driver on the pillar.

Several Forum members have indicated that they THINK this is where the PDR mic is located but I am not convinced. My phone sounds great and voice recognition seems to work OK. I believe the mic on the pillar to the left of driver's head is for these functions and they seem to work fine. I am going to do some testing of the PDR and this mic to see if I can determine that it is indeed the PDR mic also. Will post any significant findings.

This is the answer. VLC will play it properly with audio.

The largest SD chip you can use in the PDR for proper operation is 32MB. Told us this at Spring Mountain.

I’ve been using a 256GB SD card for a few years with no issues. Used a 128GB card while I was at Spring Mountain. YMMV.

32MB? There is no way that is the limit. That would be very little video at a very low quality.

Here is some perspective: a really crappy movie rip is about 700 MB for a 2 hour movie. That is roughly about 6MB a minute of video. So you could only take a 6 min video with your PDR if 32MB is the limit.

IIRC a 32gb drive will give you about 13 hours of play time. I believe resolution is 720p.

That I believe, but that is 32GB (Gigabytes). The poster said 32MB (Megabytes). That is a huge difference. It may have been a typo on his part, but that is not what he said.

Even still, its odd GM would limit it.

I had same problem, was told it was an upgrade because it's against the law to record. That's not true. The only time you can't record a conversation is if no one being recorded knows they are being recorded.
That being said I had same problem. Took to dealer, they're tech played with it for a while and it started to work again. Reset options a couple times. It was doing something else, but can't remember what that was. But it was working when I left the dealership. Works great now.

I have a Mac-had the same issue-no audio. Choose VLC to open/play the file & you'll get audio. Also I use a 64gig card-no problem. It just has to be reformatted from FAT32 to NTFS or vice versa.

Probably fat32, more universal across all platforms.

Good thread. I got back from Spring Mountain last Wednesday with my SD card video and it plays on my MacBook pro but without sound. I thought perhaps it wasn't set up to record sound in the car which is a option in the menu. Now that I think about it that would be unlikely because you use different cars almost each time you go back out on the track so they all would have to be set up that way which I know they aren't supposed to be.
I just tried to "open with" something else but VLC is not an option. What do I need to do to get that?
