Front bumper skirts

Went window shopping at a local dealer yesterday. They had a couple of C7's outside, really great opportunity to look at different color combinations.

I noticed that some cars had front bumper skirts (about 4 inch rubber) only in front of the wheels; some had a 'middle piece' and bumper skirts across the whole width of the car.

Which option determines which one comes with the car? I couldn't immediate figure it out - one 2014 had it, another one didn't. Same for coupe vs. convertible.

Anybody know?

Z51's don't have the middle one. It is left off for "aero" purposes with the Z51.

What is the actual purpose of the "spats" in front of the wheels on the Z51? Do they do anything other than scrape on steep driveways??

A friend who has the Z51 does have the middle piece... I am not sure if he has a 2014 or 2015.
