Which is faster a 2014 Z51 A6 with 2:73 performance gear ratio or a 2015 BASE A8 with 2:41 performance ratio gears. I always thought the higher the ratio the faster the car specially seat of the pants feel. Thanks Dave

0-60 or top speed? Either way, I would say pretty damn close.

You have a point
The difference between 2.41 vs 2.73 axle ratio is not enough to offset the A8's lower (higher numerical) first gear ratio vs the A6. Zymurgy has posted all the ratios. So all things being equal the A8 should be a little bit quicker, especially considering it's closer ratio spread. Also the base car is lighter than a Z51 and the A8 trans is slightly lighter than the A6.

You first have to hook-up out of the hole (60' time).

Must also consider the torque converter construction. Assuming both are the same the power to the rear wheels is the same! The issue really is which driver can get the power to the ground!

Until two people line up same day at the same track/street it will only be speculation.
Lot of things to factor in....
From a dig or from a roll = Which car is faster?
I think from a dig it would be very close, maybe a slight edge to the A6, but I have my doubts about that also.
I made a Thread listing all the 1/4 mile runs of A6, A8, and M7.
The A6 was the fastest, the A8 trapped a little higher, and the M7 was 3rd in all categories.
I would think from a roll the closer gearing of the A8 would make it a winner at most speeds, but there are speeds where the A6 would have an advantage by not having to shift.
Also, the A6 Base is lighter than the A6 Z51 and the A8 Base is lighter than all of them.
I have a 2014 Base 1LT A6 Convertible, I think even the heavier convertible in 1lt is lighter than a A6 Z51 or A8 Z51, especially if they have 2lt or 3lt packages.
If I were buying right now, I would definitely go A8, just better for the street with less flat spots.
If you are thinking of trading a 2014 A6 for a 2015 A8, unless it is stepping up to a Z06 that would not be worth it to me.
I remember back in 2005 I had the A4/3.15 and in 2006 I traded for a A6, it was not worth it, big mistake.
