Default PDR frustration

Is there any way to leave the PDR on all the time? It is frustrating to have to turn it on each time I start the car.

No. Not unless you leave it in Valet mode then you have no radio.

It's not intended to be a "dash cam" it's a track camera.

I do wish they made it so that you could turn it on all the time. Since they don't, I have my blackvue camera installed also.

Hmmm.... I wonder if this function might be accomplished through an app written for the infotainment system. Software engineering was my lifelong profession, and I noticed when the C7 was announced they were exposing some of the system's API to developers. Recently it looks you have to jump through some hoops to be a devloper, although I admit I haven't done much research on this.

Go for it! You can be the idle of the C7 forum by making the stupid GM limitations of the Infotainment system useful!

Since the car has HD radio I think it would be great if we could get the traffic/weather signals broadcast over HD radio like many of the other manufactures are allowing. Honda does it now and Lexus and Toyota are moving to it with their new HD radios. It's not that the cost is not affordable but it's annoying to pay when the data is there for free. On top of that the free HD traffic is more comprehensive than what we continue to pay for.

But I know GM is cozy with SiriusXM so that probably won't happen very soon.[QUOTE=pickleseimer;1588557414]Hmmm.... There is an SDK available (and full docs on the API)

HD Radio was removed on the 2015s.

Is it truly available? Last time I check (about a week ago) it wasn't on the site.

I suggested the idea to the lead engineer for the PDR at a NCM event in August. He said they never really considered it during development. He also mentioned they were already walking a thin line with the Valet Mode recording. I suggested making it an option to continuously record and not making it mandatory. He seemed to accept the suggestion for consideration. Subsequently, we know the controversy with the PDR Valet Mode, so the option may never come to fruition.

I added the PDR button to the favorites at the top of the screen so I can access it quickly and start recording each time I drive.

After doing a little research here, it appears that any app developed for use with the infotainment system would be for the iPhone or compatible platform that would communicate with the infotainment API. This is based merely on a description of the API I've read on the GM site, but I haven't seen the API documentation itself. Somebody please correct me if I'm behind the curve on this.

I don't know what platform the infotainment system uses but apparently GM does not consider it to be open - probably don't want anybody tinkering around with the various and extensive vehicle settings that the system supports. However, I'd wager there are plenty of undocumented functions and Easter eggs in there.

In my earlier post in this thread, my thinking was the infotainment system would provide for a developed app to reside on and run standalone on the infotainment platform. I don't see much upside in having to integrate another device to accomplish a function that would require the user to possess and manipulate that device.

Would be much easier to just have an option to allow recording anytime the car is 'on' with an overwrite option similar to valet mode.
