E-Brake ??

Hi all....I'm from the C-6 section, but have a question for the 7 group. I was in my local dealer today getting the inspection thingy done. They had a new 7 in the showroom and I got to snooping around at it and noticed the lack of...(or at least maybe the lack of)...an emergency brake handle. I didn't have time to inspect it for too long....but what am I missing ??

There is no e brake handle. It is a switch on the center console. Up for on and down for off.

The manual transmissions also have an automatic hill hold assist.

Actually has an emergency brake, you pull up and hold the switch in that position and the brake is applied proportionally along with an audio warning. Tested mine and it works great.

I haven't checked my C7 yet but my 535i looks similar and it brakes all four wheels.

Not only is the handle and the yanking that's required to set the brake gone, but the new one releases automatically when you put it in gear(forward or reverse) and begin to move.

Maybe for an automatic but for my M7 2014 it does not release when moving forward. Tried that when I thought hill hold was not working! Have found hill hold works for only 2 seconds after your foot is off the brake peddle. It's enough time but it will release by itself.

Read my post again. I never said it doesn't have an e brake. I said it doesn't have an e break "handle".

Technically, his (mis)interpretation of your statement is actually correct. The Corvette doesn't have an emergency brake. It has a parking brake. Cars haven't been required to have an emergency brake for a few decades now. That's why the icon next to the little electronic handle has a "P" in it, not an "E".

That you can use it in an emergency is handy. But it's not what it was designed to do. It was designed to hold the car in a parked position.

Last time I drove I figured as much, it's a handy feature, I was in stop and go traffic on a hill

No offense to the fans of hill hold assist.....but we are in a sports car. Don't think I'd mind at all having to "Drive" the manual the way its intended. Our little Ford gas miser car has hill assist and I just keep it off.
