Basically, the Z51 is a GS without the wide body. Since most of the Z06 parts are becoming available for the Z51 and base car, I see no reason to make a GS. Plus add all the aftermarket splitters and side skirts, the base cars look great.
Every C6 GS was a Z51(mandatory RPO), but on steroids(larger brakes, much better brake cooling, more aggressive aero downforce, larger wheels/tires.
They'd be crazy NOT to make one... Slap on existing widebody parts (likely doesn't cost much of anything to GM... the development is done already), upcharge 10k... It worked for the C6, no reason to think it won't for the C7. The actual market is people who want the widebody look (which is nice) but don't want to lay out all the extra money for a Z06... not the 3 people who are actually going to track their car but can't afford a Z06. There is no reason that market segment won't exist for the C7.
I have owned three C6's, '06, '08, and '10. IMO, each model year was "better" then the previous one, especially my '10 GS vert with the 4LT Heritage package. I now have a '14 Z51 vert and am very happy with it. I priced out a '15 Z06 vert with the A8 and it came to plus $95K, if GM builds a wide body GS version at roughly $85K I am in, if not, my '14 will probably be my only C7.

My 15 Z51 3LT Coupe had an MSRP of $78,000 (did not have all the options). So for 10k more $88,000 I could have a GS. Think my money would be better spent on a Z06.
Please keep in mind that when the 2010 GS came out, they were being discounted over $10k under MRSP. I bought my 11GS for a little over 10k under MSRP. Main reason for the GS and the discounts, the C6 has been around for many years and they were not selling.
When the C7 is at the end of its run, and the C8 is not yet available for production, maybe you will see a GS. Of course, at this time, the C7's will be selling with a huge discount.
No I'm not. GM was left with a ton of unsold base models and that doesn't help the bottom line at all
Are you dense or what? The people who were going to buy base coupes bought a GS instead. GM made more money per car and increased their net sales by selling a more up-scaled version to consumers - which is what they clearly wanted more anyways. Whether it was a base car or Grand Sport going down the assembly line has absolutely nothing to do with their manufacturing absorption rates or overhead at the plant
Your statements quite clearly reveal you know next to nothing about manufacturing
I do not think we will see a C7 GS. The C6 sales were tanking, the model run was long and GM needed to do something to prop up sales. Thus the wide body GS was introduced and helped a bit with sales.
The C7 is hot in every way and I think (hope) GM learned from their C6 errors and there will be no need to prop up sales.
I disagree. We have seen over the years that they will do whatever they need to do in order to increase sales. Considering the Z06 is a relatively low volume car I can see them taking the bits and pieces that make the Z06 unique looking and offering an option code for this on the base car. They already did it with the ZF1 package to make a base car look like a Z51. Don't be surprised when the ZF2 package is announced to make a base car look like a Z06. It will be expensive but a lot less then a Z06.
